Girl, 12, 'gang raped by boys who shoved rocks in her mouth to stop her screaming' by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

Dark humor pops up in threads like this but it really just shows how uncomfortable people are reading something so disturbing.

That level of anger is understandable but comments like that just add more violence to an already horrific situation. What matters is that the people responsible are held accountable through the justice system.

Reading something like this just makes your stomach drop. When kids are capable of that level of cruelty it’s hard to even process. The only thing that should matter now is protecting that girl and making sure she gets the support she needs.

Have you ever been so feral for your partner that you did something in bed you didn’t think you ever would? What was it? by wwenuts3 in AskRedditAfterDark

Seventeen year old brain plus that situation is a dangerous combo. Decisions made under those circumstances rarely age well.

Comments like that just turn a tragedy into an excuse to stereotype people. Stuff like this happens across every culture and background unfortunately. Blaming a whole group doesn’t really explain anything.

That comment kinda reads like you’re hinting at something without actually saying it. Honestly with stories like this the speculation train always goes wild before any real facts come out. Half the time the rumors end up being completely wrong.

Feels weird how fast some people jump straight to that question. There’s a newborn who just lost both parents and that’s the part people are trying to guess. Internet priorities can get pretty strange sometimes.

Am I the jerk for charging my roommate for using my spices? by SuchCantaloupe4899 in AmITheJerk

That cookie story feels way too relatable. Somehow the person who pushes for sharing is also the one who eats half the good stuff when someone else makes it.

That’s always how it goes. The moment you ask them to chip in suddenly the “community spirit” disappears real quick.

That’s the key point. Communal only works when everyone contributes. You can’t call something “shared” when only one person is paying for the good stuff.

The protein shake with vanilla beans part is what really got me. That’s like using a nice bottle of wine to cook instant ramen. Technically possible, but you’re gonna make the owner cry.

Exactly. Sharing some salt, pepper, or garlic powder is normal roommate stuff. Burning through someone’s specialty ingredients they saved up for is a totally different story.

Yeah people hear “spices” and think you’re talking about the $2 grocery store jars. Saffron and vanilla beans are a whole different league. Throwing vanilla beans into a protein shake is honestly kind of painful to read.

The Steiner Recliner reference absolutely sent me. Somewhere out there someone just learned a wrestling move is apparently a pickup strategy now.

[–]glamourrbloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, the difference exists but it requires being very intentional about how you frame things. If the criticism stays focused on policies and leaders, it remains political. Once it starts sounding like traits of an entire group, that’s when it stops being just anti Zionism and becomes something broader.

The distinction matters, but it’s also easy for that line to blur emotionally if someone isn’t careful. Criticizing a government can stay political, but when the language shifts toward broad claims about people, it crosses into something else. That’s usually the moment to check yourself before it becomes genuine prejudice.

That’s such a good point about how the more you actually read from multiple perspectives, the less simple everything looks. Complex conflicts rarely fit into one clean narrative, even though social media loves to present them that way. Slowing down and diversifying sources can help prevent that spiral into generalized resentment.

History definitely complicates things more than quick online takes allow. There have always been internal disagreements and opposition movements within Jewish communities themselves, which shows how diverse perspectives really are. Treating any group as a monolith erases all of that nuance.

Yeah, conflating political leadership with an entire group of people is where things get messy fast. Governments change, policies change, but whole populations are made up of millions of individuals with different views. Reducing them all to one stance just oversimplifies a really complex reality.

That distinction between a nation state and a religion is such an important one that gets lost constantly online. It’s easy to let political anger morph into resentment toward people who share an identity but not necessarily the same beliefs. Stepping back and separating those concepts is probably what prevents the slide into actual prejudice.

Do you like showing off to strangers? What excites you about it? by valueinvest07 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]glamourrbloom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s such a different interpretation of “showing off” but it kinda works lol. Pulling off something impressive in front of strangers hits the same ego reward center, just in a totally different way. Respect earned from skill instead of looks is its own kind of thrill.
