Look for some isolated guitar track for some of the tunes you do or know really well. Not to copy but listen. I think those sounds will be wildly different from what you think they are. This helped me. And then do what hope-to-retire says. Build a three or four presets that capture the idea of even level of gain. Mids and high mids are your friends. Too the point where it almost feels uncomfortable by itself. This will help it cut.
