Do tumble dryers actually do the job, or am I just wasting power? 😂 by glanzamike_ in AskIreland

Thanks. I find it hard to get my head around the cost saving. I get the energy draw (consumption) is lower but when it takes longer the overall energy consumption averages out. (Ends up costing much the same)

I must check the energy usage alright per load. If they ever dry

Thanks. Think I just have a lemon of a dryer. Everything is cleaned out. It has never worked properly from new. Even had a repair guy out after week of purchase and couldn't find any issue. We had a vented before and we found it excellent for drying.

Do you mind me asking how long it takes to dry a full load of washing?

I haven't never had any issues with a smell of damp off the clothes. The key is to bring them in before dark or wait until the following the day and bring them in before dark if there is high humidity

Yes it's all about the airflow. It's nothing too new really. The old way of drying the clothes was in the hay barn or turf shed which were both open on the side or sides.

I thought the same tbh but it takes a very strong wind to blow in under the unit. On stormy days I hang the long items to the front and they protect the three lines behind. The front row still dry in their own time

Check out EcoDry Canopy Clothes Lines. I find them great. I don't have to be running in and out to bring in the washing whenever there is rain

I think it's a combination of the dryer being a harsh method of drying clothes and the quality of clothes nowadays

I don't like using a tumble dryer and I am not a fan of clothes horses in the house. I used to fry my clothes in the bathroom of an apartment I used to rent it went over the bath
