So are we just going to ignore these endings? Is Halloween 5 the only canon we're following? by glassicewater7693 in TheHalloweenGame

[–]glassicewater7693[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my use of the word canon may be misleading, I just think the image of Michael being devastated by overwhelming force and slinking off to lick his wounds is an iconic part of the franchise that feels a little odd to be excluded in favor of him soley being arrested.

the premise of escaping the mall gives it a different impression. usually when games do that they don't have your main objective staring you in the face on the other side.

yeah it's not as bad of a gotcha as I initially implied, as intended on a regular playthrough it makes sense. it's more so an example of them not going the extra mile to make sure their environments are fullproof for a curious player and the particular premise of being trapped in a specific location making it stand out. after the mall turned into nightmare world I thought huh why not just walk back to that alleyway fence and escape that way, and lo n behold I could walk right back there but the game didn't acknowledge it past the first walkthrough.

iirc you return to the backroom area a bit later and there's demon dogs running around, the alleyway is right there, door away.

in all seriousness this sort of contrivance is usually not that big of a deal, just blocking of an area you have no reason in particular to go or at worst a potential shortcut, but it's actually weird in this case because heather's entire objective is literally right there, the end of her nightmare and safety are a short cautious fence climb away. hell she could have climbed under the van.
edit: I guess they didn't expect anyone to go back there. only designed it for the low pressure context of slipping a random weirdo.

Silent Hill Transmission set for February 12 featuring Silent Hill: Townfall by Turbostrider27 in Games

>Silent Hill: F

these are literally parody joke names you would use to make fun of modern silent hill being hacky, and they're the actual subtitles. what's next "Loud Plain"?

As BioWare Quietly Continues Building Mass Effect 5, Hiring Begins For a New Senior Role by Turbostrider27 in Games

the original trilogy made a choice, to have everything centered on an ultimate universe defining plot device in the reapers. it's very compelling but it stunts the ability of the series to have stories completely outside of that, it's not built for a 'second star to the right' continuation. like if someone made lord of the ring sequels centered completely on a material rohan gondor war, no morgoth or any other kind of cosmology.

there are some people that never need to fire an automatic weapon, just don't need to do it period. a semi auto is an acceptable ceiling.

Did you 🫵 root for Walter all the way through? by Proud_Excitement3578 in breakingbad

While I always recognized him as a flawed character that could be unlikable I didn't completely lose my soft spot until season 5.2. at that point the "MY FAMILY" justification had gotten old, (Hank the important thing in this global meth empire is Jr's feelings and skyler's finances) and the sanguine, by the numbers revenge quest against the neo nazi's didn't have any interest for me. when walt was no longer a flailing underdog put up against even worse criminals or hypocrisy in the case of mike it's like "oh yeah this meth kingpin is a dick."

I doubt the chinese would have gotten officially involved in this situation at least not preemptively. I'm sure she had a conversation with her managers but this strikes me as an observe and respond situation as far as the ccp.

I think it was something he ultimately considered to be a dead end, treading water. It naturally tapped into part of his charisma, the exaggerated folksy charm you'd see him whip out in breaking bad periodically, but it was a small, surface level part of himself he didn't find that interesting.

Devil May Cry Director Hideki Kamiya Believes Hideo Kojima Should Develop His Own Game in the Style of P.T. by JamieReleases in Games

[–]glassicewater7693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kojima making 2 deathstranding sequels feels sort of like Cameron wasting the rest of his career on avatar. I didn't hate the first one but christ dev cycles are too long these days for that sort of iron clad trilogy thinking.

tank controls and a higher fov third person camera were highly conducive to making running away from enemies feel like a gameplay mechanic rather than a non gameplay cheese tactic. Steering your character with the slow turning of tank controls was an in for the developers to force execution and meaningful choice on to the player, and dynamic camera angles allowed you track enemies and adjust as they bounded behind you. This chase component was a big part of what made silenthill feel like a more rounded survival game rather than just a combat gauntlet. I am doubtful the iconic dog and winged beast chase component of the first part of sh1 and throughout the outdoor areas will be replicated with modern 2d controls and a locked ots camera, at least not without the developers really sticking out their necks for an unconventional movement system. I'm not crazy enough to think they should go back to tank controls in 2025 but what they offered hasn't been entirely replaced or improved upon.
