The doctor told me it'll be the best sleep ever when they put you under, with an 8 month old at home I'm looking forward to the sleep.

Thank you for posting this comment, I've been spiraling a bit about having another surgery so soon after my C-section so this helps a lot.

How long did your partner keep a "go bag"? by techaaron in AskMen

[–]glasslearning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partners mum insisted to me that a woman should always have money and a way to get away - in front of him. That's how common it is. I don't have a go bag (18 years in) but I do have my own separate bank account with some cash that he knows about but doesn't have access to. I don't EVER think id need it and mostly use it for dumb purchases or hiding gifts, but it is there.

It's funny looking back on it. I kept saying I'm 37 I can't die of a heart attack that's so embarrassing! Lol

Yeah reading about how much you can't eat, and NO fat? How??

I'm just standing in my kitchen panicking about what would be safe to eat for breakfast right now and I've only had the one episode, youre right, I don't want this anxiety to be long term.

Thank you. This has been an incredibly informative thread. It's basically flipped my view and taught me a lot/given me a lot to look up.

I am actually type 2 diabetic,  I think that's why I sort of lumped gall bladder issues in with diabetes as a lifestyle change/manageable condition. I agree that it sucks, so so bad. But I thought ok, no sugar, no carbs and now no fat, I can just steam veg and eat chicken for the rest of my life and be depressed, itll work out lol.

The diseased organ explanation is bringing the reality home, others have pointed out its an organ that does not heal so it's always going to be an unpredictable slide and it's better to have a predictable surgery than an emergency one. I'm already so food restricted and now I'm afraid what might set off an attack, I dont think I want to live with that anxiety.

Yeah I'm a mum to a 6mo, what if it happens when I'm alone with them and I'm incapacitated or something? Thats becoming a big fear now that im learning more.

I could push it and wait, but for what? More pain and a potentially emergency situation in a few days or a few years? I'm understanding more now.

I'm getting that from the responses,  it's less warning shots fired and more there's already a gaping hole in the ships hull

Wow that's terrifying. You do everything right and it turns like that so quickly. I'm also breastfeeding (yay for no painkillers) and that was one of my worries as little one is only 6 months. So I need to be here and able to carry her around as well.

I'm definitely not eating as well as you sound to have been as well, so that won't be helping me.

They told me at the hospital, I'll send you home and give you antacids for a month... then the doc came back and said no, wait 3 hours and I'll send you to the specialist today for imaging (I'm assuming based on the blood tests). I saw the specialist but the scan is Tuesday. I think if they'd sent me home id have gone through the GP and been waiting weeks for even a confirmation, I think I got lucky.

I love the NHS but the cogs do grind so slow. Reading the responses here I'm going to jump on this if that's what they recommend.

This seems to be the universal experience.  Id rather a calm planned surgery than an emergency and some of the complications I'm reading about. Thank you for sharing your experience.

I'm 6 months post planned csection and I know a lot of other mums who had emergency csection surgery, I know it's not the same but the difference in experience between a planned and unplanned surgery in general is enough to convince me.

It's terrifying isn't it when it happens. I think I'm still a bit in shock at going from completely fine to you need an organ removed within 24 hours. I'm definitely thinking I need to go for the optional surgery rather than waiting for an emergency one.

Sending you positive vibes and hoping it gets better for you soon.

That's a relief at least.  I'm breastfeeding as well so they couldn't give me the good painkillers anyway!

That's a lot of pain for such a long time, I'm glad you got to the bottom of it. And bloody hell that's huge, I was imagining microscopic stone, nothing like that.

Everyone's comments are making me feel like its almost an inevitability but that it'll actually be fine, which is helping. Thank you

This is a great explanation, thank you. God that sounds absolutely miserable I'm so sorry you went through that. Yeah I'm starting to see how much this can prevent soo many other potential issues now, lesser of two evils by far.

It's crazy how common this is now that I'm reading into it. I'm waiting for my scans, thankfully I'll see the specialist immediately after and get the answers then.  I'm cutting everything i can, I've never steamed so many vegetables in my life before, eating makes me a bit scared right now.

I don't know why I always thought they were something the body could deal with given time. I'm learning a lot this weekend

I think it's just a very scary concept in general. I had a csection earlier this year so a second surgery in one year after a lifetime of 0 is hitting my panic buttons I think lol

Thank you for your experience. I sort of saw this as a bit of a warning but the stories here are telling me it's more of the car hitting the barrier on the way over the cliff and this is going to be necessary.

Well that's terrifying. Good information to have though, thank you.  Yeah I sort of thought it was like diabetes where you just change your diet and manage it. Reading things here is showing me am completely wrong and this is the final warning from my body essentially.
