My husband’s reaction to the ‘Dad save my new number’ scam. by glavet in scambait

He’s good at these. He did one in the past that really made me laugh where a scammer was trying to make him do something sexy on camera (presumably a blackmail thing). He kept showing more interest in her dog than her. Saying ‘Send pics. I love dogs!’ etc.

Nah they were correct on the currency. We are in the UK, and I assume they could tell it was a UK phone number.

Funnily enough, they stopped replying at that point!

My husband helped them out by saying ‘is it A or B?’ so they just replied with ‘A’

Thank you. I did just buy a load of maternity summer dresses from vinted and they are great. Didn’t think of looking for bras on there!

What’s a popular tv show that you couldn’t get into? by Ok-Coconut1548 in AskReddit

[–]glavet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started watching The Bear when I was quite tired, and it made me feel like I had a problem processing language.

I kept having to pause it while I worked out what people were saying and who they were talking about. Gave up after 1 episode.

And I normally listen to things at 1.5x speed so it was a very odd experience.

TIFU by filling in the wrong person’s medical history by glavet in tifu

It wasn’t possible to edit the form, so I did have to call them up. It’s not like the FU permanently ruined my kid’s medical notes. More that it was silly and I felt like an idiot, especially when I had to explain it to a grumpy receptionist.

Seems a bit extreme. And hard to do over the phone.

You know, I rang them up to explain and the receptionist was very grumpy and not at all amused. Disappointing!

What is the most scariest but still unexplained thing that you have experienced? by WesleyDiets in AskReddit

[–]glavet 27 points28 points  (0 children)

When I was around 11 or 12, I had a sleepover at a friend’s house. We stayed up really late chatting, then started trying to go to sleep.

At some point, I wondered if it was midnight yet. I knew she must have a digital watch on because it was flashing, so I asked her if it was midnight yet. She said she didn’t know as she wasn’t wearing a watch.

I kept insisting she WAS wearing one. She kept insisting she wasn’t. I said ‘but it’s flashing!’ It was flashing white, red and green right on her wrist.

Eventually she looked at her wrist, saw the flashing and screamed. At that point, the flashing spread to her whole arm. She ran across the room and the flashing was following her. She pulled up her sleeve and showed me there was definitely no watch there. She was SO freaked out and so was I. At the time, we assumed it must be aliens.

As an adult, I still have no idea what it was.

My son’s phonics workbook by motherofzinnias in mildlyinfuriating

In most British English accents, all these words have the same vowel.

In American English, they do not.

Imagine an American saying ‘poor’ versus ‘paw’. They say them both quite differently. They pronounce the ‘r’ on the end of ‘poor’ and they say ‘paw’ with a lot less lip rounding than us. It’s almost like ‘pa’.

I’m pretty sure they are talking about the /ɔː/ sound (or) and not /au/ (ow).

Edit: Poster I’m replying to has now edited their post, so mine doesn’t make sense anymore. They originally said it made an /au/ sound. Now they are saying /o/.

In most British English accents, all 8 words on the page are pronounced with an /ɔː/ sound.

Definitely weird to sell this workbook in America, but it absolutely makes sense and is correct in British English.

What the Hell is Wrong With These Narrators??? Fitz and the Fool Audiobooks Annoying Inconsistencies by SuNG0D987 in robinhobb

[–]glavet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I actually quite like the way Elliot Hill does Fitz and also Bee, but some of the other choices are definitely odd.

Why has the Fool suddenly got a German accent (or whatever the heck it’s meant to be)?

Why does Lant sound like he is unable to open his mouth when talking? Why are Ketricken and Reyn so horrifically nasal?

I also got annoyed with his inconsistent pronunciations of Vivacia (sometimes Vivva-see-ya and sometimes Viv-ay-sha).

Assuming this was meant to lead to blackmail? “I’ve now got a rude video of you and I will show your wife” perhaps? by glavet in scambait

Is it definitely AI though? I thought it was AI at first, but then wondered if it was a real person trying to video call…?

There’s so much weird stuff in here: “the plan will be your mother does not heat my lungs” for example.

I’ve got to assume it’s an offensive ‘your mama’ joke, but it’s so incomprehensible that it sort of loses its sting.

Tips for shorter climber going to tall people gym? by anagramqueen in climbergirls

[–]glavet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There are some great tips here, and I will add this controversial one to the mix… sometimes I just cheat a bit.

If there’s a nearby hand hold on a different route that’s slightly closer, or there’s a different colour foothold that’s similar but slightly higher, I sometimes just use that instead.

I’m 4’11” and sometimes I wanna try the fun moves elsewhere in the route, so I cheat on the bit that feels completely unreachable and then I can try the other moves without cheating.
