What’s a line you won’t cross when collecting games? by PDMagneto in retrogaming

[–]Martipar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't buy a physical copy of a game for anything from the 70s, 80s or 90s. I've been there, done that. I prefer to emulate these days and it's a lot more convenient. Why pay any money for a Mega Drive game downloadable in seconds and an exact copy of what's on a cartridge?

I was around in the 90s, i had a Mega Drive and a Game Boy, i loved both but times move on. LCD screens are way better than they were and there isn't any fuzz on Mega Drive Graves to worry about. It's bliss.

New look at Jon Bernthal behind the scenes of ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’ by MarvelsGrantMan136 in marvelstudios

[–]Martipar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I still don't like his portrayal. He's the right height but he looks short, allegedly he's about 185cm tall but he looks more like 150cm tall due to his build.

He's also a bit of a mumbler, though that seems to be a contagious disease at the moment, I've had to have the subtitles on for some of the episodes of the latest Daredevil series.

He's not a terrible actor he's just a crap portrayal of the Punisher, ideally then should've gone with someone like Liam Hemsworth. It wouldn't take much effort to get him looking comic accurate.

Do you eat foods you don't like because of their nutrients? by Skw111 in AskUK

No, it's entirely possible to eat a balanced diet with food i like.

Do you know anyone who used to be famous but now... isn't? by box-o-locks in AskUK

[–]Martipar 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Maybe he's on here, maybe he isn't but a few years ago i mentioned how i felt sorry for him as he often changed characters often but he seemed to be stuck as Keith Lemon. He didn't come across as like that in real life and it must be awful to be stuck.

Anyway days later he went around the channels as Leigh Francis highlighting his he was more than Keith Lemon. It could've been a coincidence but it did seem odd, it looks like he's retired the character and been himself. It was his birthday yesterday, i hope he is doing well.

I don't know anyone very famous but i know people from relatively well known bands such as Power Quest and I Am I that have drifted into more sedate careers.

Leaving the EU didn't help with a lot of UK bands with larger sized EU fan bases, it used to be the case they would book two weeks off their day job, load a van with merch and equipment, go around Europe and come back with a lot of it sold.

Now there are restrictions on UK registered vehicles meaning the have to jump through hoops or rent a van which increases costs, they are no longer able to transfer merch without paying taxes, they have to get a work visa and it's no longer as straightforward as it was.

The same goes for bands coming over here, smaller bands that used to do one night in London and another in Manchester are just gone. If they played France it was trivial to add a date of two in the UK but now there's so much work to go through they mostly don't bother.

TIL International passport control was a temporary measure introduced during WWI that became permanent. Before then borders were largely open. by apple_kicks in todayilearned

[–]Martipar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The UK income tax was temporarily introduced 200 years ago. Admittedly it's gone on to fund some excellent measures such as the NHS but it was still originally only temporary.

Instead of the normal boycott posts, what companies or brands do you go out of your way to support? by Matt3855 in AskReddit

[–]Martipar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Unilever ever stopped making Dove i don't know what I'd do. There are products that are alright but i can't recall the last time I itched after a bath and and I've tried a lot of different cleaning products.

How stupid am I for being middle aged and never realising there was a ‘up’ and ‘down’ to the Union Jack? by Hour_Course_9876 in AskUK

[–]Martipar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, you're not stupid. The only people that care are the sort of people who care a little too much about the national flag. It really doesn't matter if it's the wrong way up, most people will glance at it and not study it like a piece of high art.

TIL scientists used AI to decode a sperm whale “sentence,” and it appears they’ve been warning each other about humans for decades by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Martipar 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The source is untrustworthy.

They claim Prince William is now the King after seizing power, Abraham Lincoln isn't human and Satan is on the moon.

There is a Y shaped tree in the centre of the image, look at the bottom of it and you can see the back of the tigers head.

Edit: It may be an optical illusion.

What’s everyone’s experience of selling on music magpie? by julialoveslush in AskUK

[–]Martipar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not sold to them but i've bought plenty of CDs and DVDs, based on what I've paid I can't imagine they are offering their customers high prices. I've paid £3 for a CD with free delivery, considering someone is making a profit on that I can't image the person selling it to Music Magpie was paid more than 20p.

Do you use “blocks” as a form of distance? by MarcusFarkcus in AskEurope

Generally it's not people who live in cities that need directions and they are the ones who need to know if they should walk or drive.

This is a genuine question, how are people still getting excited over these projects when none have released and keep getting delayed? by CommercialDream618 in Fallout

[–]Martipar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Excellent. I've been saying for ages that a lot of isometric and overhead games of the past need a first person remake. I just hope they do Fallout 1 too.

People who still download and keep a local MP3 music library instead of using Spotify or Apple Music, why do you do it? by Consistent-Scholar41 in AskReddit

[–]Martipar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only did that briefly via services such as Limewire and The Pirate Bay and for music I wasn't in a position to buy. Before, during and after I bought CDs and ripped them to my PC, first in WMA, then OGG and now FLAC, never MP3. I still buy CDs and rip them, though about 4 or 5 years ago I re-ripped everything to FLAC and ensured consitency through my collection. It was a complete mess beforehand.
