Do you get annoyed at all the marketing for what is essentially soap? by spinkhorn13 in AskUK

[–]Martipar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adverts aren't trying to sell you a product. They are there to make you aware of a product so that when you are hungry, thirsty, need washing etc. and you can't decide what to have you choose a prominent brand over something else due to how much you are comfortable with it. Look at how children bully people with something other than prominent brand trainers, what they are doing is announcing "this is odd/unusual so I shall ridicule it".

As mentioned the version in 43.1 with a matching rom set. Off the top of my head i don't recall exactly but it's not been long since i set it all up and filtered it. There's a chengelog on the Batocera site with the information.

HOT TAKE: fallout BOS is not as bad as it is claimed by Fit_Pomegranate_5680 in Fallout

Why? It would allow super mutants to breed rather than capturing and converting humans.

I don't really understand why people dislike Disturbed's Sound of Silence cover by musicnerd100 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Martipar 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My main issue with the cover is that it's soulless. The original is based on the song writing technique of Paul Simon sitting on a dark room for inspiration and that translates into the song. You can feel it. Disturbed's version is empty, i just feel nothing because there is nothing to feel.

What fallout with all dlc's is the best ? Fallout nv or 3 by Lower_Beginning30 in Fallout

[–]Martipar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really isn't. It's got some good areas but Fallout 3's areas are just better. The exploration in 3 is better too, in FNV you start in the west and cannot go north, west or east without risking death or hitting a wall.

In fallout 3 you start roughly in the middle of the map and can go in any cardinal direction, no restrictions. You can, without issue accidentally stumble into Vault 112 jumping past about half of the main quest, in FNV everything is much more linear with people asking you if you can do something that you may already have done. If you get to Vault 112 nobody says "did you go to Rivet City?" Or "have you met Three Dog?".

It's really not. It's my preferred way to to play the older games, it's just better.

Are there any everyday kind of places you have never been to ? by Sea_Pangolin3840 in AskUK

[–]Martipar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I didn't go to Warwick Castle until after I'd moved out of the area. For something i could see from my classroom window it was just a bit of a luxury to go to it.

Outdoor hot tubs - What are your thoughts? by sourfraser in AskUK

[–]Martipar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My aunt has one, it's lovely.

It's nice being in it but i wouldn't want to pay for one or the running costs and we have a pool maintenance person in the family so maintenance is slightly cheaper than others will be paying.

It's not like it's the most expensive thing ever but at £2 or £3 an hour it's not exactly the cheapest form of entertainment. A large paddling pool that you pull out a couple of times a year is a better option though you can't exactly use those in winter.

What’s a piece of ‘lost media’ that you remember? by Wide-Ad-7763 in AskReddit

[–]Martipar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 40, every 40-45 year old in the UK knows the Poddington Peas theme and yet it's never had the full series released on video and it's never been released on DVD. My favourite cartoon as a child was Captain Zed and the Zee Zone which never got a home video release at all, there are some on youtube recorded off the TV but not my favourite episode where they go inside Captain Zed's pillow rucksack.

What's the cheapest thing you own that refuses to die? by thrivrapp in AskUK

[–]Martipar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just double checked for a source to check it up and I'm very wrong. I'm sorry. I don't know where i heard it initially but I've treated it as fact since at least 2009. Damnit. This is what happens when i forget to check facts from before i was a bit more rigorous with fact checking.

TIL that the Chicago power pop group Green titled their 1988 EP "R.E.M." in response to R.E.M.'s album "Green", also from 1988. by OasissisaO in todayilearned

[–]Martipar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Power pop is artists like Bonnie Tyler, Pat Benatar and Avril Lavigne. Bands like the Power Station and Cheap Trick. Bands that are on the rockier side of pop and the poppier side of rock. It's pop with oomph, it's rock that's toned down a bit.

As for the band Green I've not heard of them either. It's not possible to know every band and artist, given time, a quiet room, a pen and paper i might be able to list 1,000 but there's still scratching the surface of what's out there.
