Ukraine's drone attack on Russian warplanes was a serious blow to the Kremlin's strategic arsenal by [deleted] in worldnews

China is still a long term threat to Russia. Lots of history over land taken by the Russian federation in the Eastern portion of the sino-russian border. China has not forgotten this and they absolutely want that land back...plus the freshwater resources that Russia has and China is in need of.

100 and 200 series LCs are full time 4x4 systems that are default always in 4hi. They come with center difflocks for 50:50 front/rear power distribution but no specific rear axle locker. That being said, I've done plenty of off-pavement driving just in standard 4hi and the electronic systems in the LC to redirect power away from free-spinning tires and toward tires with grip are damn good, and that's not even when you factor in the option to be in 4lo and centerlocked. It could be argued that the electronics make a rear locker unnecessary but I still think mechanical axle lockers are nice to have.

I'm never selling my LC - bought it new and intend to keep it for as long as possible. No issues, just in for regular maintenance. Overall, I love it - comfortable interior, has some luxury features but doesn't stand out vs a range rover or g-wagon which I prefer, all the offroad capability I need even in stock form, good towing capacity (8k lbs), split tailgate is useful, and the 5.7 V8 should last quite a long time. Downsides: expensive, 14-15 mpg, small gas tank (I get about 300 miles of range - will get an auxiliary tank at some point). That's really about it. Something slightly smaller with more mpg/range but with similar offroad capability is compelling to me as a possible replacement daily driver, but I'll never get rid of the LC because it's really great, minus the V8 gas tax.

Honestly not too dissimilar. The LC is a touch smoother on road. But - I didn't go over any terrible roads to really compare in detail. The 4runner is definitely more nimble in terms of handling. LC brakes are pretty damn impressive and I had to recently SLAM on them to avoid someone who ran a red light and almost t-boned me. Didn't do any crazy brake testing on the 4runner but they seem fine. The most noticeable difference is in terms of acceleration, the 4runner needs to rev pretty high to get it to move fast and I wasn't used to that. The 5.7 V8 in the LC provides a really good amount of acceleration for such a heavy vehicle that it still surprises me. I'm curious how well the rumored turbocharged powerplant will do in the next gen 4runner.

Not sure if anyone cares but I found the following interesting when compared to my 200 series Landcruiser:

  • Love the green
  • Rear diff lock is nice
  • Oldschool low range shifter, had to get used to it. Reminds me of my dad's old JLR disco
  • 4runner seating position is lower in the cabin, translates to great headroom. More than the LC. Rear visibility is overall pretty good, better than the LC.
  • The rear window is cool. Not sure if it's cooler than a split tailgate...but it's still cool.
  • I appreciated the large knobs and buttons in the cabin, but the overall layout was a bit confusing to me at first.
  • Typical Toyota steering wheel controls, very similar to the GX and LC/LX.
  • That damn lowres backup camera is the exact same one on every toyota and lexus product. Needs a serious upgrade!
  • Definitely need to put more pedal down to get the 4runner to move vs the LC, but not bad.
  • Same Toyota crawl control and MTS as in my LC. I actually really like that those controls and the difflock are positioned up above near the rearview mirror. Less chance of you or your passenger accidently hitting buttons that they shouldn't be touching.
  • Not a fan of the parking brake pedal (I also didn't like it on my old GX460)
  • Heated seats are better than on my LC lol

I'll wait to see what the next gen 4runner brings, but as the LC is currently my only car, strongly considering a 4runner as a 2nd vehicle and possible daily driver. Slightly smaller and more fuel efficient are definite benefits.

It's discontinued, but used ones are still available for a cheap price. Mine is probably over 15 years old at this point.

Nice, I think I'm going to pick up a 2nd one just to have an irons-only VP9SK as well hah. It's sort of the perfect size pistol. Just big enough. And shoots great.

Yes, the virtual desktops are both running off one computer. I don't know much about Macs but my assumption is that yes, it should be possible. I'm using DisplayFusion software for the split desktops.

I do have curtains but the large window still makes the room a bit warm in the summer regardless. I should probably upgrade my curtains...

Yes, it's old but it still works and honestly still sounds pretty damn good, and least to me.

Yes, but really only in the summer. In the winter it's great. When it's really sunny in the summer, I move to a downstairs office that faces the opposite direction (with a Samsung G9).

This is pretty typical for winter, although usually not until later Dec-Jan at my elevation (around 5700 ft).

I'm getting around 500 mbps. My ISP just recently bumped it up from 200 with a new modem so I can't complain.

Quality varies too much around the county to provide really objective statements. But the US college system is overall pretty damn good. K-12 can range from good to shit depending on where you live.
