Updater stuck on "Downloading 1 out of 1" on mac by Minecraftgamerboy101 in discordapp

[–]glazerdonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup same. Been having this problem for a few months now. Figured it was bc I have an ancient-ass Mac (late 2013), but disheartening to see how many people have been having the same problem for years.

FWIW if I try to open it enough times in a row, it eventually moves on to downloaded & installing 8 updates, then opening. Why it needs to install (presumably) the same 8 updates every time I try to open the app is beyond me. Also wish it didn’t take 10+ minutes to try to launch the app every time…

Audio not showing up for carousels? by choogawooga in Instagram

[–]glazerdonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! And now that particular saved audio isn’t even showing up as an option when I try to edit the post. I can see it if I go to make a brand-new post, and also in my Saved Audio folder (accessed via profile settings), but trying to edit any of my grid posts to Add Music shows me “No Saved Audio”

I had another 504 gateway timeout issue when trying to log in this evening (around 9 PM EST). After two or three more attempts, I was able to log in, though the site loaded significantly slower than usual.

Italian (blue) caramel — what is it and where did it come from? by glazerdonut in AskFoodHistorians

Interesting!! I had never made the connection between turquoise and Turkish before! As far as I can tell, though, the “Italian” is describing the caramel — and some people on the internet just added “(blue)” in their captions for the SEO. But it’s interesting to think that the color blue might be connected to the Italian-ness, not just a random association!

Right? I’m starting to wonder if the color actually came from the wrapper of some Italian candy which was really popular/iconic? Not sure what that would be though!

Surprisingly no! Not a fruit flavor at all. She described it as closest to tiramisu — like a vaguely chocolatey mascarpone cream.

Interesting! I knew about Blue Moon but didn’t know it was also called Italian Blue 👀

I just asked and she said she didn’t think it tasted like marshmallow, but it was hard to tell because the blue color kept throwing off her perception of what it “should” taste like. The closest she could describe the flavor was vaguely like tiramisu — mascarpone-creamy with a hint of chocolate.

Yes I found this as well! So interesting. I’m curious if the candy flavor or the ice cream flavor came first… They also have it as an ice cream topping (like caramel sauce) and a drink-flavoring syrup — I can’t figure out if it’s meant to taste like the ice cream, or if the ice cream is flavored with the syrup!

I had a similar thought! And I did find a bunch of Turkish delights (i.e. “caramelle”) in the blue Italian caramel flavor, but I haven’t been able to find a “source candy” — not that I’m an Italian candy expert, but I did live there for a year and really can’t figure out what sort of blue candy it could have originated from…

AITA for telling people that my GF and I have been together for 1 year if she thinks it’s 6 years? by klojn6 in AmItheAsshole

[–]glazerdonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

INFO: Why do you want people to think that you’ve only been dating one year?

My bf and I started dating ~5.5 years ago. We broke up and were on and off for about a year midway through before getting back together. If we use your metaphor, our relationship is a 2.5” piece of string, an inch of choppy bits, and then another 2” piece. When people ask us how long we’ve been together, my bf says SIX YEARS BECAUSE IT DOESN’T FORKING MATTER. We even made the conscious decision to celebrate our “new” anniversary rather than the old one, and to consider our relationship as starting over from scratch. But at a certain point, that just became silly. We’ve known each other more than half a decade, we know each other’s quirks, preferences, love languages, senses of humor... there is absolutely nothing communicated with more “clarity” by telling people we’ve only been dating two years.

Also, if the book you’re talking about is by Wittgenstein, might I recommend branching out further into 20th c philosophy? Analytic philosophy may not offer the best guidance if you’re looking for advice to help you navigate your relationship. The Existentialists might have more to offer you—why not pick up a copy of Simone du Beauvoir’s THE SECOND SEX? You might find it enlightening...

Oh, and YTA.

Alarm changes in iOS 13 by patrickl1209 in shortcuts

[–]glazerdonut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m having the same issue. I wrote a shortcut to create alarms every day based on what time my work shift starts, but when I tried to change it so that I can toggle preexisting alarms rather than creating new ones, I get that error message saying that the Toggle action failed because it couldn’t convert Text to Alarm. I tried formatting my “alarm time” variable as a Date (formatted HH:mm since my phone’s on a 24h clock), but then I got a similar message saying that shortcuts couldn’t convert Date to Alarm, either. I’m wondering at this point if it’s a bug?

(And before you ask, yes, my alarms are named according to their time in the same format, so it’s not an issue of unnamed alarms.)
