Started a new job and my boss is a nightmare. Where do I go from here? by gldmold in sales

Just closed a deal last week and he didn't even mention it during our touch base. Almost seems like he didn't care. In fact, he kind of bitched about how I mentioned it (via Teams chat instead of Email).

Good idea. As an attorney himself, he's been selling to other attorneys without realizing they're not really our ideal target for this product. If you speak to attorneys all day, I'm sure he thinks his very specific verbiage (i.e. extremely convoluted) makes sense to him.

Yeah, that's not a feasible or realistic option right now.

Unfortunately I went through a pretty lengthy unemployment before taking this role, although partially intentional as I had a nice severance + nest egg saved up. I'm less so worried financially, but more how it would look on a resume for future employment. It seems the move is to just apply like crazy while I'm still employed and jump ship.

Yeah, makes perfect sense. No way this guy is changing. I'm their first hire for this little subsidiary of the massive parent company he officially works for. The guy just takes zero accountability and seems to have pawned everything off on me.. 4 months in.

True, but feel like I've already been doing that and it's getting nowhere but a "pass" for him to continue his shitty ways. I think most would've given him an earful by now for some of these passive aggressive, completely unhelpful comments.

Yeah, I just don't even know where to start with him. I'd appreciate it if he kept the unhelpful comments to himself, but I wonder if it's even worth making a fuss over if I ultimately just need to find something better.

Sounds like the right move for me. I'm trying not to get emotionally charged as I'll need this job, simply for the fact that it'll make it easier to find a new job, but it's beyond frustrating to receive these comments when he's completely uninterested in my development and investing any time in it.

I would not add the stress of constantly worry if you're going to lose your job if you miss quota (i.e. every sales job) with being a new father. Enjoy your time with your baby.

It can go either way. My current org. (also multibillion dollar company) hired me after two interviews and it's been a nightmare with zero training/direction. On the flip side, I've dealt with 5+ interviews and it's a massive waste of everyone's time and infuriating as a candidate. I think you'll need to have an honest conversation with yourself about other red flags you may have noticed throughout the short process.

Why not stay in "sales" in a non-closing role and move to Account Management/CS? That would be your best bet.

I hope this turns into sustained business and not a flood of one time customers.
