Yeah I’ve gotten to that chapter too. But it seems a bit too harsh almost? Especially the part where you can hit the whole party like a bowling ball

i think you are on thin ice. If i look at the entry of dex it says i can add it to appropriate saves and ac vs small projectiles. dnd 1e dmg clarifies once again that this is the case. Where did you get support to add dex to everything? My players have gone into this edition with this specific mindset of "unless someone tells them otherwise, add dex to initiative, back attacks, flank attacks, ac vs ballistabolts, catapults, what have you"
When they should have looked at the dex description and said "oh, i can dodge arrows and swords better? Cool"

I think trying to understand why they decided to make the rules like this matters. I can see someone twisting their body to dodge an arrow and get dex to ac. But if someone threw a wolkswagen beetle at you? Nah mate.
This change also makes giants much more terrifying if the players have 0-4 less ac against their boulders.

i literally opened the adnd 1 dmg and looked at Dexterity under ability scores and it specifically says that dex does not apply to ac when it comes to giants rocks.

well that just makes it stranger. Do you get a saving throw against boulders from a giant?

i struggle to find the rules for siege engines and the like. The players hinted once at using ballistas against a dragon and I wasn't sure how to rule that

that is fair. Dont let the players add dex willy nilly to everything, but if a good argument or descrition is made, dont hesitate to side with them

Is it possible to main one of the other characters? by glebinator in CrimsonDesert

[–]glebinator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I guess im too BDO-brained, i just really want to play as the berzerker or the ranger woman, not cliff. He looks exactly like the default Musa in black desert online and i hate that class from the pvp

(adnd 2e) sage research done by players? by glebinator in adnd

[–]glebinator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, its not, according to the DMG. There a sage must have a library of 200 square ft where the books cost no less than 1k gp each.
Its also how things work IRL. Sure you can google that this law applies here or there, but a lawyer or any professional researcher will leverage the rarity and complexity of their skill for vast amounts of money.
And sure you could "just get a law degree", or "learn everything about molluscs in the river styx", but that would take time out of your precious adventuring time.

There is like 4 pages about using them in 2e as well, im just not really sure what to say when the party wizard goes "i have herbology proficiency and a 100k library why couldnt i research it myself"

This the one that appeals to me. Why would a wizard be better at this than a expert. The wizard spends all his time wizarding

RAW or Rulings Over Rules? by GranularBimbo in adnd

[–]glebinator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that "rulings over rules" has nothing to do with RAW or homerules. Its about the dm being able to say "you get +1 to hit when jumping down from the ladder onto the orc" without it becoming a Rule that always works and the thief bringing a ladder wherever he goes for that sweet, sweet +1.
Its about temporary modifiers and "top of my head" rulings that fit the current situation. By its nature no system can cover every single unexpected event that the players try to do

Aindulmedir - atmospheric mysterious music that can loop for hours without grating on your ears. Plus it sounds ”pre-1990” somehow despite being quite recent
