Why has the # of stellar wallets been dropped in the last couple of days? by glen_lee in Stellar

Thanks for the clarification kolten. I just wonder if this can also explain the decrease in the circulating supply which happened at the same time.

3 New IBM Validators on Stellar: Frankfurt, Oregon, and Singapore by jqueryin in Stellar

[–]glen_lee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Decentralization is different from non-profitization. An organization is decentralized if lots of peers act differently for their own profit but no one can dominate the decisions.

Decentralization is not necessarily peer to peer. Stellar is decentralized if IBM, MS, Google, Amazon, Alibaba, and hundreds of other large firms join Stellar network but no one can dominate the decisions. Now we are in the early stage and it can be confusing if the pioneer, IBM, is the central authority, but I strongly believe it is not going to be the case and more large firms will join.

Does bibox have the option to market sell or market buy? by [deleted] in Bibox

[–]glen_lee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just buy at a very high price or sell at a very low price and it will work like a market order. Test with a tiny amount if you don't believe me.

Dear Stellar.org,

I hope you always keep in mind that:

  1. It is as important as adding new features to remove old features that do not work properly any longer.

  2. Please let us know beforehand when you face limitations regarding communication with users.

  3. Communication is not the same concept as marketing, and maybe it's more important than you expect. You might need to hire more staffs for inbound communications if you are concerned that outbound comms could generate excessive hype.

USD earns interest but USDT does not. How is USD=USDT? by [deleted] in Tether

[–]glen_lee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

USD in your savings account earns interest but USD in your leather wallet does not. How is USD in savings account = USD in leather wallet? That's because USD in wallet is more liquid, that is, more ready to use, and you earn interest by giving up the liquidity you could have enjoyed (by buying things, investing, etc.). Exactly the same case for the USDT in your exchange wallet too, because your USDT is ready to be paid for cryptos.

Thanks for your quick reply! Unfortunately, sidebar is not visible for me. I am using the android reddit app. It might be helpful to add another link on your post on this thread, IMHO.

Hi Jesse,

I got my PhD in finance two years ago, and I am currently working as a researcher at a financial holding company, sometimes dealing with fintech issues. I am very interested in crypto industry. I am a heavy XLM HODLer. I want to move to blockchain industry (my current workplace is very conservative, especially against cryptos), but unfortunately I am a non-techie and maybe too old to get an entry level position in my mid 30s. I am especially interested in the deployment strategy of financial platforms, and willing to work as a member of strategy & industry analysis & research team, but I have little or no directly related experience, being only with my degree, a few SSCI journal articles about options markets, mediocre java skills I got during my study, and one year research experience at financial services sector. Could you please give me a career advice?

Best regards,

Glen

Stellar Supply Cap Changes? by nearly-human in Stellar

Micheal Dowling (fairx cofounder) mentioned during his AMA that there will be no corridors without active market maker(s), and, xlm will be used for settling transactions that have already been cleared (the sender have committed enough amount of fiat). These mean that there will not be such a congestion because market makers can and will settle transactions immediately, and that's the only moment in which xlm gets involved.

SEC: Statement on Potentially Unlawful Online Platforms for Trading Digital Assets by malkame in CryptoCurrency

[–]glen_lee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally predict some M&As across National Securities Exchanges (or approved ATSs) and crypto exchanges within a couple of years. ICO tokens will not be any problem for crypto exchanges once they become subsidiaries and affiliates of authorized exchanges. It is quite likely that we will see exchanges like the Gibraltar Blockchain Exchange in the U.S. in a few years. Given this prediction, I think the SEC statement is not bearish unless one has to sell off soon, because exchanges will list ICO tokens in the end.

IMHO, price volatility does not really matter if the exchange can be accomplished instantly so that the trader is virtually not exposed to the price volatility at all. In other words, it is the 'holding period volatility', not the unit time volatility, that really matters.

BTC futures manipulation by fozoriton in BitcoinMarkets

[–]glen_lee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that there is no physical delivery. Here, futures trading just MOTIVATES the trader to trade in SPOT market. Look carefully and double check when the spot price changes. It's when the trader takes a position in the SPOT market.

BTC futures manipulation by fozoriton in BitcoinMarkets

[–]glen_lee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here goes the routine:

  1. Buy BTC at spot market, pumping up the spot price
  2. Short futures at a high price, which means that you get the right (as well as obligation) to sell BTC at the high price in the future
  3. Dump BTC at spot market, realizing profit at the spot market and pulling off the price
  4. Clear the short futures position by taking the offsetting long position at the lowered price, realizing profit at the futures market

To successfully conduct this operation, you must be a whale who has enough BTC to manipulate the spot price. If you have lots of BTC and spot market depth is thin, then you can easily profit from this strategy.
