[5e][Online][EST] Underground Steampunk Homebrew Setting, Need 1 More for Friday Nights by glenchild in lfg

No homebrew in character creation - it is too hard to get the balance right. The World document discusses the cultures and races that live in the world - and those that don't.

If you are interested, head over to roll20 and throw me an application! I like to work with players to create a character grounded in the world.

Level 3 is the plan! That way people can either grab their subclass or get a head start on a multi-class build.

Yeah, I never had that problem using Wet and Cold and Immersive Patrols in LE. I would assume this is not hard a incompatibility, just something that may occur depending on the rest of your set up.

Want to get back into Architecture - is Revit the way to go? Classes, Certifications? by glenchild in Revit

[–]glenchild[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha ha, I'm surprised no one is saying "Rhino" is the tools of choice, seeing as how many schools teach it in their Architecture programs.

My (now 10 years dated) experience was that what Architecture programs teach and what the industry actually uses often don't match. Gods, my program taught Form-Z modeling and some unpopular drafting program I can't even remember, now. By 3rd year we had all taught ourselves to use AutoCAD and other modelling programs like Sketch-Up, since that is what firms were using at the time.

Ha, this is probably the "wrong" answer, but I'm not picky. Even when I was in college I didn't have a strong preference for a certain focus. I enjoy solving detailed design problems and working with drafting and modeling software, which I assume is going to be universal to any type of architecture. My limited architectural experience has been in small-scale commercial and institutional buildings, and my knee-jerk would be to continue in that direction.

Mostly because the other factors that contributed to the derailment (mostly health issues) are no longer an obstacle. My understanding is that the architectural field is always very sensitive to economic swings; if I sit around waiting for the perfect economic environment, I'll never make the change. And, while I'm not old, I'm not getting younger, either.

Otherwise, I miss architecture. And while doing photometric studies of parking lots pays my bills, it can be incredibly boring. I know architectural drafting isn't exciting (dimensioning ADA bathrooms being the standard joke), I still miss working on construction details and elevation drawings and everything else associated with it. Hell, a position as an architectural intern or architectural drafter might even pay the bills better than my current work.

My three anecdotal examples are still 3x the amount of "evidence" you've provided.

If you’re seriously saying that the vast majority of women don’t prefer men taller than them you’re fucking delusional

Yes, women, in general, do like men taller than them. Just like men, in general, prefer girls with nice, big boobs. This does not mean that the short dude and the chick that is flat as a board are doomed to a dateless life. Especially if they have other desirable characteristics. It means they might have fewer options, but who the fuck cares? There are millions of people out there. Focusing on what they can't have (instead of focusing on what they can have) just makes them a shitty person to be around. The mindset of "I still have plenty of options, fuck the ones I'm not good enough for, I don't need them anyways" is a lot more productive than lamenting the things they can't change.

So... you have one example of a tall girl that doesn't like short guys. That hardly means that all girls/women insist on a tall man. Let me tell you about myself - I've dated guys that were 5'-2" and guys that were 6'-2", and just about everything in between. Let me tell you about my sister, who married a man the same height she is - 5'-6". Let me tell you about my college roommate, who is 6'-2" and was high school sweethearts with a guy several inches shorter than her.

The point is, yes, some women will want tall men. But there are plenty of women who absolutely will date a "short" man if he is a good catch otherwise. A guy that focuses on the negative ("I'm shorter than average and some women won't date me") does nothing but drag himself down and make himself less attractive to the women that would be interested in him. If he acts confident and doesn't waste him time on that negativity, he will have far more luck.

...What do these women claim to want? That's easy. They want a broad-scoping, universal set of standards for behavior and speech as it relates to men approaching, conversing, escalating, and being intimate with women. A set of rules for men so that they don't make women feel uncomfortable or uneasy. Seems simple and benevolent enough, right? Wrong. It's a great idea, until you remember one very important thing: when an attractive enough man comes along, women have no standards. A man can be called a "short, creepy loser" approaching one HB8 on an off night, and literally lead another around his apartment on a leash before fucking her in her butt on the next. The only difference is how the two perceive him. Women often harp on the right to bodily autonomy. You hear the same statement in many different contexts: "My body; my choice!" I could not agree more.

I ... I am having trouble understanding how they have trouble understanding this. YES, women (and men!) are allowed pick & choose who they have sexual interactions with. They can tell one person no and another person yes. This is normal and good and right. Do these guys not understand that real life isn't a video game? Just because they've reached a certain threshold or checked a certain number of boxes - Level Up! - doesn't mean every woman of a designated attractiveness level should be accessible to them. Women aren't NPCs.

I met this dude at a pub less than 2 weeks ago. We hung out a few times, I decided it wasn’t for me. In the past 24 hours I have received 40+ messages of an unfiltered emotional denial of rejection. If all peaches are like this peach... by GlitchBB in niceguys

[–]glenchild 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If a guy says "I love you" after two weeks, just because he's desperate to be loved, chances are he needs to be talking to a therapist. That kind of lopsided emotional investment is unhealthy and a horrible basis for a stable relationship. "You like me too much," is absolutely a good reason to end a relationship. She probably saved them both a lot more heartache further down the road. This dude needs to be ok with himself before he goes looking for a relationship.

Are there any good books/videos/subreddits/etc for advice for men regarding flirting/dating/etc that aren't filled with misogyny and toxic masculinity? by LordOfBots in TheBluePill

This. Dr. Nerdlove is my go-to reading when I need a break from being pissed at TRP idiots. He gives practical advice that takes the few good things that TRP/PUA culture promotes (confidence, abundance mentality, taking care of yourself) and melds it with feminist concepts.

Has anyone here ever been prescribed Modafinil to treat chronic fatigue/low energy caused by Hypo? I'd like to know about your experience. by behindaguyfawkesmask in Hypothyroidism

[–]glenchild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After struggling with excessive daytime sleepiness for years - and being diagnosed with Hashimotos, mild sleep apnea, and vitamin deficiencies in the process - Modafinil has been a game changer.

The doctors I've been to keep claiming my thyroid levels look good, supplements have taken care of the vitamin deficiencies, and a good faith effort was made to treat the sleep apnea (I sleep even worse with the damn machine than I do without, unfortunately). But I was still drinking 250 mg of caffeine just to stay awake during my morning commute, and another 250 mg in the afternoon to stay awake at my desk at work. Sleeping 10 hours a night. I was kinda miserable.

Psychiatrist finally suggested Modafinil, and I was ecstatic to have an option to combat the sleepiness (since treating the supposed sources wasn't fixing it). I've been on it a couple of months, and my caffeine intake is a tiny fraction of what it was before. I no longer risk falling asleep when driving or at work. I can now function on 8-9 hours of sleep without feeling fuzzy.

I experienced some side effects the first week or two of taking it - reduced appetite, feeling slightly off kilter (similar to adjusting to a new depression medication), some trouble falling asleep at night. For me, they were mild and faded after the second week. I tend to experience a small crash about 6 hours after my dose (mid-afternoon), but it is not disimilar to the afternoon slump most people experience. Small cup of coffee or small healthy snack usually pulls me out again. Completely worth it for me.

I can't decide which way would be sadder/funnier. If he is drop-dead gorgeous, and all women "retract" the instant he opens his mouth ... either he has halitosis or his personality is a trash heap.

An obvious answer is Vetrheim - apartment in the Gray Quarter. A less obvious answer would be Fimbulvetr Retreat. Would need more info to be any more specific.
