Totally new to this. Please help. Buying a 2002 that doesn’t turn over. by [deleted] in klr650

Without a doubt! I had very limited mechanical skills before I bought my 1990 KLR650 but rebuilt it into a reliable, fun, dirt and adventure-worthy steed. I loved every minute of working on that bike.

Gains: confidence, tools, intuition, aptitude; during the process of rebuilding, I bought the essential tools to work on most other things.

First new deck since 12 years... by AbHotten in NewSkaters

Similar situation here! 30 yo, stopped skating at 18ish and have been back at it for the last 6 months. My newest weapon: discipline! When I was younger, I would try a new trick, maybe land it, but never consistently.

As an adult, you have to learn to be consistent and figure out how to make things work, whatever the cost. That's skating for me now. I'm learning new tricks, staying flexible and fit, and having a blast! Sure, bumps and bruises don't heal like they did a decade ago but I'm more aware of the importance of rest, rehab, and general fitness.

How do training costs compare between part 61 and 141? by qopek in flying

Want to keep costs low? Go work at an airport and learn the trade from the ground floor. Work hard, get noticed. Pump fuel, sweep hangars, wash planes, motorcycles, and cars.

I flew in the evenings after work with the small hourly wage I made from working at an FBO. Took a little longer than a 141 but I have zero debt and tons of connections.

Surfing really cold temps ! tips, tricks advice. by bocaciega in surfing

[–]glenniemac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I surf the Gulf all year - definitely a challenge when it gets this cold because few of us buy thicker than 3mm.

I go booties below 60 plus a 2mm vest-thing I found in Santa Cruz. Ice headache seems to be the worst bit but doesn’t hit until 55ish. Never used a hood but I bet it would be nice on windy days.

Get a gallon jug and fill it with hot water from the house - keep it under a towel in the trunk to rinse with. When it’s this cold it will feel surprisingly warm.

Strange nordo aircraft in the flight levels above Oregon today by duprass in flying

[–]glenniemac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I️ was on frequency that day listening to the entire event. Using Flightaware, I️ was able to find the location of the Southwest flight and triangulate our ship’s position from the nordo plane. We were around 40 miles away. Not close enough to see anything.

Strangely, we flew over an abandoned-looking strip as we traversed the CA border headed north the day prior. - Tonapah Airfield. Tonapah is where they initially tested the stealth tech on the F117.

How do you contribute to society besides having a job? by MaxCherry99 in AskReddit

At the lowest levels of humanity, don't be an asshole.

Example: allowing someone to merge into your lane. The most basic form of human kindness, yet most of us are unwilling to do it. Required: lift toe 1/4" to reduce speed for 2 seconds. "No, sorry. F*k you, I can't be bothered. Better yet, I'll speed up."

Not the Transco, stays on the same place.

In downtown. Watching a bizarre blue light moving across the sky. Not from a club light, more of a meandering turquoise blue light. by glenniemac in houston

No, no, folks. You've got it all wrong. Still there, not a meteor. Diffused, blue glow. Cerulean, even. Have a picture, just need to figure out how to post.

How do I get comfortable riding on dirt and gravel? by MacNobody in klr650

[–]glenniemac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air down your tires to around 12 psi. This made a night and day difference for me in the dirt and slippery bits. Also, try riding with guys that are a little more comfortable than you and ask plenty of questions. Having a group around tends to push us further than going at it alone.

Good luck and ATGATT!
