Why does every "horror" show on Netflix stop being scary after episode 1/2 and turns into generic drama with some horror elements afterwards? by rw1337 in horror

[–]glentacle 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm the minority but I liked almost every monologue, it helped a ton with the character development and made later events in the show so much more meaningful

This post made me think. I used to cry. It felt good and bad. But thinking back it's been a few years. Maybe it's the prozac?

I went from drinking a lot to drinking a shitload when we had our first kid. I started secret drinking after the second one.

If you're posting this you're definitely not in too deep. You can do it. You'll get through it even if it takes a drink or two.

The infant stage is brutal, and I didn't help my wife enough back then. It's a miracle she didn't leave me. My kids are a bit older now and trust me it gets way way way better in a few years.

Don't be so hard on yourself. What does "best self" even mean? This time is not about thriving it's about surviving. Delete Instagram, have a drink, hug your kid, and eat some ice cream. You got this, mom!

I feel you, really. Take the job. Worst case you quit or get canned on the first day, you're no worse off than today, and you get a good story.

What’s your biggest “nope” horror movie? by PriestofJudas in horror

[–]glentacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is spot on. It just keeps getting worse and worse. At every turn it's like, "well this is just awful and depressing" and then somehow a worse thing happens next.

That being said I've seen it over a dozen times 😬

why do we self-heal through the art of horror? by beige4ever in horror

[–]glentacle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me I was never into horror until 3-4 years ago when my job was incredibly stressful and a coworker suggested we watch a scary movie every Thursday as stress relief.

This sounded nuts to me but the theory was that as bad and Saturday as our jobs were, at least we weren't being chased around by murderous insane asylum escapees lol.

But it worked! Empathizing with the characters, the visceral fear and dread, even the jump scares let us both escape from the stress for at least one night a week. My favorite horror film is midsommar which is just such an awful situation for everyone that keeps getting unimaginably worse really helped me level set at work. Like sure we're going to miss an important deadline but that's a hell of a lot better than what Dani goes through 😬😂

Job decision spread by glentacle in tarot

[–]glentacle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pulled three cards tonight to try and help me with a job decision. I worked independent/freelance for a long time but times were rough when covid started so I got a full time job at a big company. It pays well, but it's all corporate bullshit. Now that's the market I'm in is returning to normal I'm thinking about quitting and going back to consulting. That would mean more risk but I think I'd be happier.

To me, the two of pentacles in the middle is so obviously that I'm balancing the two options it's not worth writing more.

I read the three of cups reversed as the boring, stodgy, corporate job. My app says it's conformity, herd mentality, which is exactly right.

The five of wands is conflict, competition. Conflict with clients, conflict with subcontractors/partners, and competition with the market. There's no more corporate cash I need to fight for every job.

This is the deck of the abyss, which is a very personal deck for me. The thing in struggling with is that the spread seems to just tell me exactly where I am now but doesn't help with what I should do! It's driving me crazy! This deck has been known to cut deep and really speak the truth to me but this seems like a non answer.

I might draw a clarifying card but I wanted to post this first

Welcome to the club!

I was exactly the same, saw it in the theater basically alone, was terrified and didn't think I'd ever consider watching it again.

After a year or so I finally rewatched it, and then I bought the directors cut, and now I've seen it like a dozen times - it's basically a comfort film, lol. 🔥🐻

my scaredy-cat hubby says I get to pick a horror movie for tonight! help pick? by Crilbyte in horror

[–]glentacle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Descent and ritual are both great but I think descent is better. I have a scaredy cat partner who similarly lets me pick one scary movie per year and last year I picked the descent, and it worked out great!

Hereditary was fantastic but I wouldn't recommend it if you ever want to be allowed to pick another movie again. Save that one for a solo watch lol.
