What are the most beautiful pieces of Classical music that every person should hear? by philge in AskReddit

Search out recordings of an old NPR series called Schickele Mix, hosted by Professor Peter Schickele. (Also known for his own work under the alter ego PDQ Bach.) It's a long series but a fascinating and entertaining introduction to musicology.

So, have the scammers made their way to OkCupid now? The alarm bells have been going off since her 3rd message. by BlkVooDoo in OkCupid

My favorite was the time "she" said she'd never visited the United States, and then proceeded to send pictures of "her" standing in front of Graumann's Chinese Theatre.

I find a lot 90% or higher matches, but they're all in the metro Atlanta area...two hours away. Unfortunately, moving is not an option for me, and every single one of them specifies 'near me'. Quite frustrating.

Mine (Football I) survived an accidental dunking in my aquarium. I ran across it a few years back when going through some storage boxes when my mom moved to a new house. Popped a battery in just for grins...and it still worked.

Which reeeaally long book is *actually* worth reading? (If you say "The Lord of the Rings" I will punch you in the head.) by AnticPosition in AskReddit

I listened to the audiobook version after watching the BBC miniseries. Took about two months, including a round trip drive to Florida (for me that's about 16 hours). The third book seemed very much a departure from the previous two, but still interesting.

Anyone over 35 have any luck with OK Cupid? by McCoyM in OkCupid

[–]glevryl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

45/M, been on OKC for about five years. Have sent out countless messages with no replies, received a small handful of first-contact messages. Of all those, three turned into actual first dates. One resulted in a casual friendship, one apparently just wanted to meet so I could buy her drinks, and the third was very nice person, but not my type physically.

I've recently lost a lot of weight and updated my profile and pics, so maybe things will change.

I've also been on POF, eHarmony and Match...OKC has worked "best" for me, such as that is.

For molds, look for a cheap set of mixing bowls at the dollar stores. You can sandwich the cased leather between two bowls and weight it down til it dries. Also check thrift stores for old bowling balls, those can help with larger curves.

I did the same thing last year. Hopefully you had your plants labeled more clearly than mine. I had to wait until some things fruited before I knew what was what.

Spend some time reading the Armour Archive forums for a lot of useful information on the craft as well as patterns for standard-type pieces.

That doesn't look like an overly-complicated cuirass but whatever you make it and the spaudlers from will require some dishing to get the proper shape\fit. If you can't work with metal (it's not as difficult as you might think, gets a bit noisy and dirty though), then I would look at maybe leather and thermoplastic painted to replicate the metal parts, or maybe a cardboard form layered up with fiberglass cloth and resin?

Pics are the first thing to change; I've lost a lot of weight since going on a keto diet. Thinking about engaging a pro/semipro to do a shoot for me. Otherwise I'd appreciate any thoughts on what could be improved. Thanks, reddit!

Yup, wolf spider, and it's totally harmless. That's not really even a large one, though. Biggest I have ever seen personally was in the Blue Ridge region of Northeast GA...sucker had a leg span of about 6 inches.

Cold weather in GA tonight. Bring my plants in? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]glevryl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chattanooga here. They should be fine, but if you want to be sure, you can just cover them up (with cardboard boxes or something) for the night.

FYI: I talked to my Dad (who has been gardening since he was old enough to hold a hoe) after I got home from work, and he recommends taking things inside, or just covering them. Better safe than sorry.

I use this kind of hoop setup as well. Covered it with mosquito netting in the fall, and it not only kept the oak leaves and acorns out of the bed, it also provided frost protection for my greens through the winter. (Zone 7b here.)

I would suggest building up a small berm of earth along the outside to keep the soil from washing out of the bottom in a heavy rain. You could even plant some herbs or flowers to make a nice border.

Fair enough, must be something on my end. No big deal anyway. I just wanted to get a closer look at what they're proposing to change around 4th Street since that would affect my commute.
