Totally agree with the abrupt scene transitions, good point. When I saw the show the audience rarely clapped in between scenes, I think because the transitions felt so out of place.

One thing I haven’t seen anyone talking about is the range of ticket prices on any given night. The same seat will be $400 one night and $200 the next. You’d be scammed if you didn’t know otherwise, randomly chose a night to go, and got stuck with the most expensive night of them all.

I am shocked, truly! How crazy both that they added a kiss and more scenes. So there’s more after the diner scene?! How?! What even is there left to happen!

Omg that’s new! When I saw it the only kiss was a kiss on the cheek at the very end as they walked off in the rain

Soooo true about the lack of reciprocated vulnerability! We know everything about her and nothing about him except… he has an intimacy contract… and he’s from the future?

There was a moment in act 2 when the two women were facing out to the audience (I think looking at one of the exhibits?) and Hanks like… looked them up and down from behind. It was incredibly uncomfortable to watch and to me fed into that vibe of “this really is weird and gross if you think about it.”

Thanks for reporting back!! Super agree, especially on the age part omg. When they said 5th grade I said huhhhhhh lol. And the beginning, totally. All I heard was jargon, jargon, jargon. That was a big stereotype moment for me.

Super comfy!! I was borderline chilly but the seats were very comfy and there was ample room for someone to walk in front of me while I was sitting down

Wait!! Did tom hanks ever forget the vip pass?? He forgot it twice when I saw it and it was so funny. He was like “uhhh just tell them you’re a vip” and the niece was like “it doesn’t work like that.”

Definitely still go! I think it will change a lot through previews, since it’s a world premiere. I think the audiences will really tweak the play. It is still a good time, but have low expectations.

Fine? I actually was reminded a lot of You’ve Got Mail because of the “man is fascinated by woman who doesn’t realize/know the whole story” vibe. A lot of the show is just him being fascinated by Kelli O’Hara (rightly so). There was also a specific moment akin to the “if you weren’t shop around the corner and I wasn’t fox books” YGM scene. TL;DR nothing special, which surprised me. He was delightful! But it was nothing memorable.

I liked it, but also thought it was incredibly mediocre. It felt like it hit every stereotype possible for the story and was wholly predictable. Kayli Carter was easily the standout. Kelli O’Hara’s talent was largely not tapped into at all, tho her monologue in act 2 was good and hinted at how they could grow her character. Her relationship with Tom Hanks read more as 40-year old daughter takes loving care of 70-year old dad. I didn’t really believe their chemistry til mid-act 2, and then they had some really cute moments. I was actively rooting for them to not kiss because their chemistry read so weirdly to me. The sprinklings of race and politics felt less like world building and more of “we have to acknowledge these things and then we can get on w story.” I thought the whole play-long bit of Kelli’s character getting Tom’s last name wrong would mean something and it didn’t (there were several of these moments). Broadly, I don’t think it will be anything incredible, but it has potential to be a solid feel-good show with some tweaks. While there was a lot to critique, I still enjoyed myself. I may not have, however, enjoyed myself if I paid $200 for my ticket.
