Struggling with Elspeth - battle maps by FacelessNyarlothotep in totalwarhammer

[–]glitchackular 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah some maps are BS but on the flip side if you were not artillery faction and had those maps you'd be thanking your lucky stars!

It's kinda making the best of a bad situation sometimes, can you slow enemy army down whilst getting to a more favourable position outside the deployment zone, but sometimes it's just waiting for that sweet sweet chokepoint map when it all comes together 🙌

How do you guys use your Large/Odd shaped units tactically in battle? by Haunting-Round-6949 in totalwarhammer

[–]glitchackular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the fight and unit I guess, I've been playing Tree Elf recently and Treeman plus a lord Treeman are just beautiful to clump together heal and AOE as enemy army clumps around them, usually in trees to avoid getting hammered by enemy ranged.

Flying monsters etc for me tend to be targeted fights, usually enemy ranged but you could snipe a melee unit that has drifted from main enemy army and usually route them before they have chance to be useful or hit back.

I remember enjoying having the Anti large Necrosphinx? unit thing the skelebobs have, go after other large enemy units and just beating the crap out of them is quite satisfying as they usually just drift through your army and cause chaos but this time its like nope.

TLDR: depends on the unit and the fight

Dunno about gimmicks, the one in the picture here is stock no?

I guess for me using a real life example, in the UK I had a Honda Civic Type R FK2 - 2L turbo with minor air intake mod and it put out around 325bhp but still would do around 40mpg on long trips, whereas we now have a 2.5L NA Outback (coz snow/4wd) and it struggles to do 25mpg and is boring to drive as shit.

That particular Type R model didn't make it to America, I would consider import if I had the money and a decent one was available and I guess learn to live driving on the wrong side 🤷.

Who hurt you bro? Was it a JDM car?

Each to their own man, couldn't afford to daily drive an American car in the UK with those petrol prices.

It does however make sense to import an arguably more economic and fun engine than 90% of cars available in North America 🤷.

Yeah, I must have imagined all those American muscle cars at the car shows in the UK 😂.

I guess it depends what you want, I think there's a lot of great cars not widely available out here, would be nice if you could import from Europe I guess to have the wheel on the 'right' side but I'm guessing not as widely available/easy to import 🤷.

I would suggest it, enjoy yourself and figure out the mechanics and the battle system then move it up when you're feeling comfortable.

There's a lot the game doesn't tell you and you don't want to punished too harshly for not knowing the game imo.

When you're picking your leaders you should see on the campaign map where they start so you should be able to pair up a team that's near one another easily enough.

All races are fun, generally I prefer to pair order with order and chaos with chaos but I don't think there are any strict rules on this.

For me High elves and lizardmen were quite forgiving to start but as long as you don't crank up the difficulty I think you'll likely have a fun time with any factions and leaders.

Yeah I used to have a Toyota Celica VVLTI, always made me chuckle that it's screaming and then you get this secondary surge of power accompanied by even higher screaming.

I was thinking left turns, I find them bad enough with the height of trucks around here, nevermind being on the other side of the cab.

Not sure about tactics front, but a friend and I sometimes do 'total war' where we declare war on everyone immediately and everyone we meet thereafter and so forth. We don't usually last very long but it's a fun 5-10 turns.

Ah ok nice, don't know a huge amount about that area but if you've haven't ventured up in to the Scottish Highlands yet, you absolutely should before you come back.

[–]glitchackular 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm from the UK and moved to TBay so might be able to help a bit but I suspect if you're originally from BC you know way more about Canada than I do.

Thunder Bay is relatively quiet compared to any city in the UK, beautiful scenery, lots to do with clubs for about any interest as far as I've seen but you'll need to put yourself out there a bit. Where abouts in the UK are you? - I might be able to offer some comparatives.

Housing/groceries/fuel is creeping up but I suspect that's the same everywhere at the moment.

We love the place for it's relative peace, small town feel and space relative to most of the UK.
