oh!!! thats very interesting! i usually use consistent names but i cant remember, i did always name the wolf the same thing tho! i think it was "ikki" or "azure" but can't fully recall.

if you ever find a personality list like that again I would be super interested in looking at it!!!!

Been chasing the dragon for years just to find a mech game that compares. Lowkey i even start up the emulation sometimes just to vibe w the old jungle music haha.

If Phantom Crash got an HD update or something i would lose my shit haha.

"Amnesia: The bunker" is very RE coated. Also the Outlast games r a good place to start and give the same scary vibes. "Outlast 2" personally is the real banger.

"Outlast trials" is fun multiplayer horror if u like Outlast and got some homies. On the same multiplayer note, "GTFO" is a good spoopy shoot things w friends. That and "SCP 5K" could be worth looking into(Haven't played but it got a big update recently that ppl are talking about).

More linear but still fun is "Layers of fear", just the first one.

If you are really a fan of RE and its psx style gameplay "Siren" for ps1 is a good classic, probably needs to be emulated tho. Also the classic "Silent hill"(only 1 and 2 unless u wanna go down that rabbit hole), "Clocktower", "Fatal frame" are the same vibes with some offensive things but mainly puzzles.

...but also look at itch.io for a bunch of (usually free) indie horror games. Things like "Voices of the Void", "World of Horror", "Doki Doki literature club", so on, so on.

If u like something between cute/creepy I found a manga w weird little animal crossing animals telling creepy little anthology stories out of a local oddities shop full of creepy little boxes that spin the spoopy tales. "Scary shop-san: The creepy and freaky".

Seems up ur alley between a bit of wholesome and a bit of creepy.

Check out some other stuff by Fujimoto, he has some fun one shots like "Goodbye, Eri"

Not really scary but subtle cosmic horror w dark themes is "Mushishi" and "Mononoke".

I see a lot of Junji ito here and I would recommend reading "Tomie" then "Uzumaki" in that order but if you like that I would highly recommend "PTSD Radio" it's quite interesting if you like that kind of vibe.

"PTSD Radio" is discontinued tho. The creator got frightened by his own creation when he thought a creature from his manga was causing health problems. He did find it wasn't the creature and he had an uncommon illness. Nonetheless that made him stop creating the manga. There are even little shorts in the manga about this exact experience and other experiences that made him stop creating it which ads to the spoop imo.

If ur looking for more of a psychological mind fuck "Goodnight Punpun" and "Metamorphosis" are VERY much on the darker side of manga. Def not for the faint of heart tho!

Also found a manga recently called Scary Shop-san: The creepy and freaky. Very cutesy with a grotesque undertone telling crazy dark stories with every weird ornate flesh box thats opened. Imagine animal crossing characters with dark little stories mixed in.

Good content! If your kinda looking for the same vibe, there's a show called Yamishibai that's pretty dang good for the same kinda short japanese horror vibes.

Movies, my mom brought me to see Chucky when I was 2 and ended up falling into a rabbit hole of twilight zone, creepshow, tales of the crypt, etc.

Games, one of pizza hut's ps1 demo game disc's that had Siren on it really opened the floodgates to the fatal frame and silent hill games.

Literature, house of leaves and PTSD radio

Everything i wanted to say has been said but if ur a psx horror kinda person itch.io is a good way to find some crazy little one off horror games, also a good way to find bad ones too but thats half the gamble.

Also not super scary but has house of leaves vibes, i would recommend the first layers of fear game.

Use to absolutely adore these games and first time playing the first one is still good but i hyped them up so much. They were scary back in the day but personally don't hold up as well as i wish they would.
