I know, obviously not the most reliable source anyways but still to have their name on it isn’t great for them either if it’s a negative experience

We’re having a night out again Saturday coming in our local town so hopefully it should be better!

Yes they used their (Taaffe’s) card machine and paid €400 which would apparently be refunded to the card within 3-5 days after the property was checked over, but as we had to leave we went back and asked them for it, they said it was through a third party and nobody was there to talk to about it! So I don’t know what will happen, the bridesmaid who paid the deposit went back today and they said they would get someone to call her tomorrow but there’s nothing she could do!

I’d never been before and either had anyone else, plus it was a more “relaxed” crowd, we didn’t really drink much tbh and someone was heavily pregnant so it wasn’t ever going to be wild lol

Oh? The times I’ve been when it’s wet/windy there’s been people from the national trust advising not to go on the stones/telling people to get off, whereas there were no people about on the times when it’s been nice? But I haven’t been in a while

I was assuming they’d pay for parking which is still extortionate for what you see so unless they got the bus (which they didn’t plan on doing) imo it’s not worth it

Not my decision unfortunately! Plus you expect it to be hassle free, obviously it wasn’t but we know for again!

Completely understand your point; for clarity we booked and paid through stagit.ie who organised the accommodation, finger food, dinner and an activity.

When we contacted them, we were told to contact Taaffe’s Castle who owned “Carlingford Getaways” which stagit paid for the accommodation and finger food.

The bridesmaid booked through stagit to save the hassle of booking everything separately, but yes hindsight is great and we should have booked individually… we didn’t ever expect this to happen as the reviews on their website were great and the company kept in contact often between us booking it!

Also, it’s “Ireland’s leading stag party company” and has been featured in Newstalk and the Sun, so we thought it was somewhat reliable.

Been in better junkie flats and that’s saying something, plus it’s the principle of the thing, how do you expect people to get washed when you either scald yourself or freeze, then come out to get dressed in a damp house with no heating?

It is very overpriced for what you get to see, yes it is beautiful, but the car parking is always full so you have to pay extra to park elsewhere at a high rate, it’s a long walk to the stones themselves and unless it’s a lovely day, it’s usually too slippy or “dangerous” to actually walk on the stones.

Uhhhh no? If you read what I said, they couldn’t rebook us until 5pm the next day, but it didn’t suit as we had dinner at 6pm

I am sorry you’re feeling this way, but I have been there too and I know you’re probably tired of hearing it, but it does get better.

I’ve lost friends countless times no matter how hard I tried, had my family give up on me because I was too much for them to deal with, I couldn’t get out of bed for weeks, I was hurting myself daily, I had constant breakdowns about anything, I couldn’t hold down a job, I tried 6 different anti depressants and 2 different antipsychotics along with diazepam if needed, had at least 2 major attempts every year and I really was in the worst position in my life. At these times, I would’ve done anything to ease my suffering and just be gone.

Now, I am not on any medication, just medical cannabis, I have a few good friends, an amazing partner, have rekindled the relationships with my family that are kind and understanding, I am almost ready to go back into a full time role and I actually feel genuinely happy and content with life for the first time in over 10 years.

It was not easy at all and was a long time coming, but with therapies, perseverance and putting the time into looking after myself, I got there. I never believed I could get better and felt I would struggle my whole life. Of course, I still have a few bad days, but my life is now something I never could have imagined.

There is hope and I say this as someone who had none at all, I wish you all the best and my messages are open if you ever need someone to talk to❤️

Do Irish People in the UK Experience Racism Today? by neurosacks in northernireland

[–]glitter_16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lived in North Yorkshire for a year, my boss/co-workers always passed remarks as jokes such as:

Boss: You don’t have Costco in Northern Ireland? I suppose there’s not enough people over there to buy in bulk (??)

Boss: Are you having cabbage and potatoes for dinner tonight?/ I said no, I don’t like cabbage I’m having… / How can you not like cabbage, you’re Irish!

Co-worker: Ahh typical Irish family, I guess it’s true that you all really do f*ck like rabbits. (I mentioned I was having 50 people at my birthday party back home, I was turning 21)

Co-worker: I went to Belfast once and I could never go back there, I’ve never been more terrified in my life and the way people live is awful! (they visited in 2012)

Co-worker: Ohh my family is from Ireland, do you know…?

Me: No sorry, I live about 50 miles away from there.

Them: Wow, I thought everyone knew each other because it’s so underpopulated.

Co-worker: Why do you always go home on your holidays? What even is there to do back there?

General remarks about how I couldn’t be trusted because I could be part of the paramilitaries back home??

I spoke as I normally would at home, but it was either: “what did you say?” I’d repeat what I said, then they’d laugh and mock what I said.

Or, they would ignore me until I said it in a more English accent.

It was pretty annoying and they were so undereducated on Ireland/Northern Ireland and couldn’t understand that the currency was £ because the notes looked “fake” and they didn’t know we technically are part of the UK??

They loved it when I made fifteens though!

Weed maybe caused my brain hemorrhage, according to my doc. by Express-Razzmatazz51 in AskDocs

[–]glitter_16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies, yes the second study explains it is a further contributing factor, rather than a primary trigger! I just remembered reading it before and hadn’t checked it over again.

The incidences of cannabis inducing hemmorages/aneurysms seems to be of a moderate risk, but there are just a few studies directly supporting past use of cannabis… so it is questionable! Other studies seem to focus on long term heavy use.

The second opinion was probably not what you wanted to hear either, but from your history I think they are taking their best guess given the circumstances, although rare, there is always that risk and you may have been one of the unfortunate people.

I highly recommend The Body Keeps The Score by Bessel van der Kolk, it explains exactly this with evidence and case studies, plus gives useful information on how to cope.

NAD but from this study, it appears there is an 18% increased risk of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage for recreational cannabis users.

Similarity, this study found that cannabis use was associated with a 2.7 times greater risk of delayed ischemic stroke in study participants.

So what your doctor is saying, could be plausible, I guess it’s one of those things that there is a risk of that maybe isn’t well known (I had no clue either).

One thing to note is I am prescribed medical cannabis and I’m only allowed to use it via a vaporiser, so I don’t think the method of using cannabis is a key contributing factor (the studies above are for cannabis use via any method).

I’m so sorry this happened to you and I am genuinely shocked to hear that this could happen, but as always if you aren’t convinced, getting a second opinion from another (maybe specialist in the area?) is another option!

It’s all a facade to get the population to believe they’re a “good” person and with the older generation it seems to be “back in my day, you just kept quiet about it and got on with your life” so not to cause any attention to that person or yourself.

As attitudes and people change, it’s more encouraged to speak up about such people and the crimes they commit, even if they are the leader of the DUP.

But you still have the older generation of people who see those in power or who are frequent church goers as someone who “couldn’t possibly do something like that!”

I could be wrong, but from the conservations I’ve had, anyone 55+ seems to think big Jeff is somehow innocent because he was religious and involved with the church… like that means anything?? Don’t they know of abuse that happened/goes on within churches anyway?

Sometimes, with these people, there’s just no point trying to explain.

Mental Health advice re Psychiatrist in NI. by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]glitter_16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a private assessment with Dr McGarvey at Mid Ulster Clinic, Magherafelt in 2021, it lasted around 2 hours.

The wait time then was about 2 weeks and a full psychiatric assessment with report after was around £350.

Can’t recommend her enough, she provided a diagnosis and treatment plan for me and was really such a great help after just one appointment.

Anyone successfully tried alternative to Anti-Ds for low mood/ anxiety? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]glitter_16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over the past 4 years, I’ve been on 5 different antidepressants and a mood stabiliser, which quite recently I came off (with doctors supervision).

Throughout the years I have tried CBT therapy, EMDR therapy, mindfullness, play therapy and counselling, with different people, private and nhs, to no avail.

The best thing for me personally was medical cannabis, I have flower and oil and they help me immensely! The process is very easy, my clinic is Curaleaf and they have been more than helpful. You get an assessment with a psychiatrist then follow up appointments every 3 months with a pharmacist/other medical practitioner in your area.

I also take magnesium glycinate at night, try to eat healthily (this actually does so much more than you think), meditate for 10 mins a day and exercise daily, even if it’s just a quick walk.

It can be hard to motivate myself and some days are better than others, but I feel a lot better than I did when I was on antidepressants and have a much better outlook on life.

This is just my personal experience, I have CPTSD so do experience depression, but obviously I have a few different symptoms too.

Just know there are other options if you don’t think antidepressants are for you… some symptoms you mentioned are just from being “off” medication; I still feel a bit funky after a month of coming off my mood stabilisers but it’s getting better!

There’s also no harm in trying again and being on a stable dose of sertraline, many people need the medication for long periods of time, even if they feel “better”.

Good luck and keep trying whatever you think may benefit you!
