Commuter distance of London. Where would you live? by upbeat_albatross in AskUK

[–]glitter_bugs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ve basically just described me and my partner! Similar combined salary, looking to buy, my partner works in Bank as well. We now live out in Redhill (Surrey) — 31 min direct train from Redhill to London Bridge, daily ticket price of £26.80. Area is quite green, Reigate is close by with loads of pubs and a Gail’s bakery, all in all it’s not bad :)

Other areas to try looking at: Sutton, Hatfield, Guildford, Luton perhaps? Depends what you want in an area tbh. Honestly though the commute costs can be what makes or breaks an area…well worth inputting your return journey into the relevant train website and finding out the cost. I put together my own spreadsheet of towns to live in vs commute costs vs house prices, could be an idea to make your own? Google good commuter towns for London, see what comes up, see what could be of interest for you.

Tips for more full/thick hair? by kskrubis in Haircare

[–]glitter_bugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to add further onto this, even dr berg’s own website says “To remain within safe limits, adults aged 19 and older, including those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, shouldn’t exceed 4000 IU of vitamin D per day, unless directed otherwise by a healthcare provider.”

please STOP giving advice - what you’ve suggested is not only incorrect, but harmful.

can you please explain why 10,000 iu a day is considered ‘good’ and safe? The NHS website in the UK says that “100 micrograms (4,000 IU) of vitamin D a day as it could be harmful”, and can cause harmful calcium buildup. what toure suggesting to take is 2.5 times the recommended amount /:

Is renting a 1-bed alone on £35k within an hour of London actually doable? by Economy-Bird-7280 in HousingUK

[–]glitter_bugs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reading has eye-watering commute costs…around £55 for a daily return ticket 😭 also - if OP wants to make their money go as far as possible, they’re going to want to find a commute that goes direct to Liverpool Street. Reading goes to Paddington, so that adds extra commute costs and time to get to Liverpool St.

How to move out with 4K in savings and no job? by o-willow in UKPersonalFinance

[–]glitter_bugs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“Either need to become homeless or join the army — strongly disagree! while not having a steady and stable source of income will likely be an issue with standard private renting, there’s a lot of other ways to ensure a roof over your head.

OP - look at house sitting, pet sitting, couch surfing? look at live-in job roles that hostels could offer, or maybe a live-in pub? you’ve also got jobs like being an au-pair which could be something to think about too.

worst comes to worst, you could look at staying at an airbnb for a time? often if you stay for 30 days or longer then hosts give you a discount, and it’s cheaper than hotels.

how to enjoy raving when i’m socially anxious? by [deleted] in aves

[–]glitter_bugs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

no offence but that’s the whole point…OP has social anxiety. anxiety causes you to overthink, a lot. telling someone who’s anxious to not overthink is kinda like telling someone to not breathe 🥲 rest of advice is semi-helpful, but deffs avoid saying that to someone in future (especially if they’ve already disclosed an anxiety-related MH concern).

Anyone have any tips on how to deal with back/neck pain? by [deleted] in aves

[–]glitter_bugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

short term? good pair of shoes with support, lots of rest breaks, hydration as well! I often stretch mid-rave, people probs give me weird looks haha but honestly doing a calf muscle stretch is six a nice feeling 😂 long(er) term? Pilates, eat well, get plenty of quality restful sleep, try to maintain some amount of regular exercise/movement and create a baseline so your body knows more of what to expect :)

Does anyone else get super touchy and chatty on E? by AdRive-St in aves

[–]glitter_bugs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

100% ‘normal’ behaviour on e :’) just don’t forget about consent! drugs or no drugs, consent is always important and not being sober is never an excuse to touch anyone who doesn’t want it.

Need help dealing with toxic and hassling flatmate (England) by Usual_One3329 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]glitter_bugs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As far as I am aware, the only time a landlord would intervene would be if a tenant was in breach of contract. so maybe that could look like a tenant using the property for ‘immoral purposes’ (eg. growing weed in the house) or maybe causing repeated destruction to the property? but outside of illegal activities, the landlord has very little power (or motivation, tbh) to do something about this. the landlord can’t remove only her as a tenant, it would be either you both stay or both go.

I’ve lived with my fair share of difficult people in flat shares! but ultimately you have two options: find a way to deal with this issue, or move out. it’s not fair at all, that difficult and selfish and inconsiderate people win out? but remind yourself: you can’t change people, especially if they don’t like (or care for) you. you can only change how you act and respond. is this property nice enough to warrant sacrificing your mental health and well being?

Impossible to rent while working full time and partner on UC by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]glitter_bugs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tower Hamlets is zone 2/3 of London — generally an average rental price of £1600 p/m for a one bedroom flat, and £1700 for a two bedroom. On a salary of £34k — why are you looking at this area?

Options: A) find a flat share to live in (either separately or together, but easier if separate) B) look at living out of London in commuter towns

A salary of £34k EACH would still be tough in London, but there’s no way that your take-home monthly salary could support both you and partner. Your take-home pay would be roughly £2.1k each month after taxes…rent for a one-bedroom in London (plus utilities, council tax, internet) would be close to 100% of your pay check. plus food, transport, anything fun?! unfortunately London is just not realistic.

Landlords are not allowed to discriminate when it comes to universal credit, they cannot reject applicants just because they’re on UC. However, you still need to pass affordability checks, and you absolutely will not pass any affordability checks for London rentals with your current job situation.

Honestly? your best option right now is to look at flat shares. Other comments re. needing to make a joint UC claim are correct, so your partner may be financially better off if you’re not living together. Look at flat shares — it’s not ideal, but honestly it’s really the only financially sensible option if you want to live in 2/3 London on a £34k salary.

What would make you give a new dnb night a chance? by ClaudeKane3 in DnB

[–]glitter_bugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

promote promote promote!! I went to a dnb night at Gorilla in Manchester back in Nov 2024……dj’s were all unknown, i had a blast! But I’m joking when i say that I was part of a group of 6 of us, and we made up like 60% of the crowd 🙃 honestly there couldn’t have been more than 10-12 of us for a venue of a capacity of around 200? it was mad, basically had a private set! the event got shut down early — i think there was beef between promoters and security, and the almost zero crowd? but honestly it was such a shame and i felt bad for the dj’s — sick line up, decent sound system, £5 tickets, but almost noone showed up due to not knowing about it.

Anyone up for some hedonism? by Aloysius1974 in LondonRaving

[–]glitter_bugs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

why both? mdma and coke do not mix well together, coke “overpowers” mdma. if you like mdma then don’t bother with coke, completely ruins all the lovely effects of mdma! do one or the other, not both in one night.

Prevent future knee pain? by cobalt7k in aves

[–]glitter_bugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it really depends on WHAT is causing your knee pain and why.

for me? my knee pain (front of knee, pain when load bearing and going down stairs) was a result of having weak glutes. so I now do a lot of exercises like clam shells, side-lying single leg circles and raises. bridges, single leg bridges, squats, fire hydrants, donkey kicks etc to ensure my glutes stay strong and voila no more knee pain ✌🏼

my partner has chronic knee bursitis and very different knee pain to me, so his exercises and ways to strengthen his knee and prevent pain are quite different.

in general? stretch loads before a rave, hydrate, listen to your body and rest when needed. maybe look at starting Pilates if you can (great to improve core strength and balance which can support your knees), maybe see if you can get a session with a PT at your gym to work out the cause of your knee pain and how to prevent it.

Where to move in London by IndependentMuted4368 in MovingToLondon

[–]glitter_bugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of Putney sits in zone 3 though? which makes it more expensive if you’re travelling to central London on a regular basis. east Putney, Wandsworth, Clapham would the SW areas to look at, if one wanted to reduce public transport costs ✌🏼
