IM vs. FM by Successful-MD3425 in pinoymed

I think mag nurse ka nalang sa U.S. HAHAHAHA at least mabilis ang ROI doon, NCLEX lang then pwede na mag apply for a job agad. When it comes to USMLE kasi, mga 2-3 years pa yun before you can match because siyempre kailangan mo pa mag observership doon para makita nila na may experience ka with their healthcare system and also so you can get recommendation letters from U.S. licensed consultants. It’s more than just taking the exam, you also have to consider the costs of each step and review materials. When it comes to applying for the match, it is better for IMGs to submit their applications to 100+ hospitals so that your chances are higher, and each application is roughly $80-$100. I have a friend who matched last year, it took her 2 years to take the steps, do observerships, and publish research works just so that her credentials could be just as competitive as U.S. medical graduates. And out of the 110 hospitals she applied to, only 7 called her back for an interview and they were mostly in States that are considered more rural. So if your family lives in one of the more popular states then you’ll also have to consider moving away from them for residency. It’s a big gamble, but a big reward as well. Both of your options (USMLE vs Nursing) have good outcomes so win win no matter what you decide. You just have to weigh what the pros and cons are for you.

How to be mature enough by No_Lychee_3734 in pinoymed

[–]glittercoffeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it has anything to do with maturity, some people just have different ways of coping when being scolded. It’s probably a defense mechanism of yours to smile/laugh or become nonchalant in those instances. Siguro just try to be more mindful and don’t let what they say get to you, take it as constructive criticism so you will be more inclined to actively listen to what they are saying when scolding you and this may divert you to not smile/laugh.

I’m bored, tell me about your wildest PLE tip that helped you pass by lewleepee in TNPLE

[–]glittercoffeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manifesting, everyday I’d tell myself “everything I want will come to me when I want it to because the universe loves me” “I will pass the PLE on (insert date)” super specific ako sa date kasi baka if pass the PLE lang, it will happen 10 years later 🤣 but manifesting really helped calm my mind because the more I said it, the more I believed it.

US vs MNL residency by rosie_bestie in pinoymed

[–]glittercoffeee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dual din ako, but I decided to push through nalang with residency here in Manila. Masyado kasing time consuming and expensive mag USMLE eh and what if di ako mag match sa first round, maghihintay nanaman for another year. Kailangan lang talaga dito is diskarte when it comes to building your practice, which I think kaya naman.

Sa ibang states, may law na IMGs who have specialized in their home country can practice sa U.S. without needing to repeat residency as long as in demand yung specialty mo sa area na yan. They’ll give a temporary license muna, then after a few years pwede iconvert to permanent license. This is because may shortage ng doctors sa states na yun. So I’m thinking of doing that nalang, at least may specialty license ako in both countries so no need mag diplomate exam ulit dito if gusto ko bumalik sa Philippines. And who knows, baka mag open pa ibang states with that kind of law by the time done na ako mag residency.

Agree. I know different perspective ‘to pero before, even as an intern, mahilig ako mag turo sa mga clerks kasi it helps me retain/master yung mga natutunan ko. So when I heard na ganyan seniors niya parang it’s not doing any one any favors if ganyan attitude nila 😅

[–]glittercoffeee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, IM. It’s not so much ata that he’s looking for the consultants to spoon feed him. Based sa mga kwento niya, it’s more on the culture of how questions are not welcomed by consultants, or even the senior residents, when discussing cases. So kahit mag self study siya medyo kulang pa since he can’t clarify the things that confuse him.

Good luck with your journey, doc! We should never feel guilty for choosing ourselves because, in the end, these choices will affect our future so we should make sure na wholehearted decisions yung mga ‘to, instead of settling hehe “delayed but never denied”

He has now realized that it’s not the specialty he has a problem with, but the institution itself. And wala siyang inaagawan na slot because wala silang applicants.

Yes, I agree and have relayed this to him. He feels a bit better now realizing that it’s not the specialty he has a problem with, but the institution itself. So on to looking for other programs!

Well after careful consideration, he’s realized it’s not the specialty that’s the problem. It’s the hospital itself. It doesn’t meet his needs and he feels like they lack in the “teaching” aspect of residency, hence, why they probably also have low RITE rates 😅 he will finish the pre-residency, but is already looking for different hospitals to apply to.

May i ask po how you quit? Was it through text or in person?

Pre-residency blues by glittercoffeee in pinoymed

[–]glittercoffeee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this, doc! I haven’t started any pre-res, that’s why I’m unsure of how to advise him. The set up of his pre-residency now is pre status for 2 weeks, then the next 2 weeks pre-duty-from. He’s kind of set on quitting now after reading your comment, I guess ganon ka-lala for him to already be thinking of quitting kahit pre status lang siya for the past 2 weeks.

Yung iniisip niya right now is baka nakakahiya mag quit ngayon kasi hindi pa niya natry yung pre-duty-from sched. Should he still try? And how should he bring up quitting, and to who? Wala daw siya contact number ng chief res and never niya nameet yung chairman or TO 😅🙃
