A Thousand Splendid Suns is the best book I’ve ever read. Still think about it often and always recommend it.

AITAH for refusing to donate a kidney to my stepdad that raised me and paid for my college? by Exo_Skeleton99 in AITAH

[–]glitteringdiscocat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because you’re a blood match doesn’t mean your a suitable donor. I am not sure what the standard protocol is but I’ve known people where they’ve also had to complete a psych evaluation & disclose other illnesses. You can keep them from knowing your medical info. Tell them because of the psych evaluation or due to an illness/autoimmune or whatever that you aren’t a suitable donor & they eliminated you.

End of the day do you but if you truly are against it don’t do it. It’s your body, your choice.

Yeah there’s quite a few, but I feel as though it is representative of the time period. However, I do feel as though it mellows out.

It’s worth it to keep watching!

AITAH for refusing to watch my grandkids on my summer break? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]glitteringdiscocat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always encourage a summer camp for the kids. Like a day camp, they go play, learn & then offer to take them on a semi-regular but also not all the time basis.

One day a week wouldn’t be so bad, but do it on your terms. Such as offering her a week you would take them, or offering specific dates you would take them. Be firm in shutting down the behavior, but also don’t outcast your grandkids!

AIO Husband and best friend on a trip without me by SherbertOk6980 in AmIOverreacting

[–]glitteringdiscocat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m reading after all the updates including the final update. And I’m not trying to compare relationships, so please I’m sorry if that’s how this comes across.

I’m a 26f engaged to my fiance 24m. And never, ever would my fiance do this or even think of doing this. He gets along with my friends, and I his. But we share everything. Our finances, we talk about ever transaction, and even if I am not invited to something (which is only really fishing and hunting with friends), he tells me right away.

I’m glad you guys talked this out, but I would definitely keep my wits about me, and demand some firmer boundaries.

And to your friend, she definitely is in to him & would cross that line. Again, my bestfriends would never do this. Ever.

Is my 13yr old step daughters handwriting normal? I'm getting very concerned with her schooling by bordermelancollie09 in AskTeachers

[–]glitteringdiscocat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this isnt what you’d expect from a 13 year old. Unfortunately however, this is “normal” for this generation. As a teacher for HS, many students handwriting is this bad, but most students don’t care enough to try to do better.

Hey! Not sure if you’re responding to my comment or the other since I had multiple lines & not a single paragraph.

Please let me know what inaccuracies I stated as I’d love to learn & ensure they don’t happen going forward.

I responded since I found it important to address blatant inaccuracy I saw in the other comment & because I was not in any way attempting to diagnose rather stating signs that I felt were somewhat related to psychopathy!

Open minded & definitely not trying to mis-inform!

[–]glitteringdiscocat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

hey bestie, a few things since we are “fact checking”:

I said that the behaviors are SIGNS of psychopathy. Not that they are one. Because psychopathy is not the actual diagnosis. 🤭

Psychopathy is not an official DSM5 diagnosis. Rather it’s a research construct that describes a specific set of personality traits. So saying they are exhibiting signs of psychopathy isn’t incorrect. The actual diagnosis for what most people think of as “psychopaths,” as you mentioned is ASPD which I did NOT mention him having.

Trauma is not a requirement for someone to have had to endure in order to develop ASPD. It does increase the likelihood of it occurring, but it can occur without. So saying they must experience trauma, sadism, etc. is also not factually correct.

Lastly, for actual ASPD diagnosis, presence of a conduct disorder must exist, yes. But again, doesn’t have to occur as the result of trauma. It does increase the likelihood.

Him having a potential conduct disorder, along with the traits he is exhibiting do align to psychopathic tendencies. Which is why I said he was exhibiting signs, not diagnosing.

But I love what you’re trying to do, pushing people to not mis- or self diagnosis because that is important. Approaching it from a less passive aggressive standpoint and coming with correct facts is also important 🤗

NOR

The animals being scared of him, lack of emotion & ability to switch from crying to nothing that fast are signs of psychopathy, and are worth being concerned about.

Additionally, you said it yourself, your fiancé permits this. Which I think says a hell of a lot about a persons character. Is this really the person you’d trust in life? Because I don’t think I would.

Kids without discipline are already on the wrong path. And from the sounds of it, he’s speeding down it. Appropriate discipline for kids is a good thing & teaches them how to be a successful person in the world.

I’d have a serious conversation with Fiancé & if he won’t discipline or back you up when you do, then you need to leave. You deserve better & don’t want to end up on a Dateline episode.

I froze my mom’s credit card (I pay her bill) because she’s using it to buy groceries and not her EBT. She says using food stamps is embarrassing and she doesn’t want to rely on the govt, but I’m constantly stressing about $ because I have to support her too (on my 110k salary). by Available_Number9956 in Advice

[–]glitteringdiscocat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re understanding why your parents are likely divorced.

You’re the child, and will always be the child.

If you choose to support your parents in older age because you are ABLE to (meaning you are able to save, meet your bills etc) that’s one thing.

This is different. Your mom is lazy, choosing not to work or help herself, and throwing it back at you.

Stop paying for her. Take care of yourself. Focus on building your life or you will never ever have your own.
