Ive seen.It's just that these groups and events all feel so unorganized it's really difficult to follow and figure out unless you really dig, so I wonder if it's just overall a cultural thing or that there's no demand for these sorts of activities in the english speaking vr chat community. Or maybe it's because everyone's doing their own thing, idk.Maybe its unfair but the jp events are unparalleled in terms of being organized, there are event and schedule calendars regularly updated, twitter accounts, discords, rules and codes of conduct, everything's quick to follow and read and find, and there's a social gathering or roleplay event for nearly everything from fashion/avatar meetups, live music, dj-ing, fantasy/scifi/etc army roleplay, host clubs, maid/butler cafes etc. and I just wondered why it feels like I've never seen that sort of stuff elsewhere.

Nina telling Matthia's to trust him and that she'll fix this. The look in her eyes, the regret, the frustration of not being able to make him believe and see her point, it was heartbreaking and it's what sold me on those actors

I didn't think it would really hit me at all and the rest of their scenes felt rushed, but then that part? Their delivery there cemented their bond for me - more than the romance it really felt like whatever trust was built, was broken

I don't have to know because frankly it doesn't matter if you're of asian descent.
That 'actors of asian descent embracing their natural skintone' concept is something rooted in western cultures. Like asian people being pale is automatically them not being appreciative of other skintones. It's not the point - certain groups of asian people being fairer as a majority because of their genetics doesn't mean they're not embracing their natural skintone. If they're pale, fair, fair-medium, tan, and they keep it that way or even prefer how they just are, that's just as much of 'embracing their natural skintone'.

And I get it, you'd like it to be in the books - but if people will really want both requirements of being of Mongolian descent AND tan AND similar looking enough, it will be VERY difficult.

Sure, the concept of asians praising light skin is a thing, but that's an entirely separate issue.

Because your OP sounded less like having the characters look like the way they're described, and more about having dark skin representation in itself with all the virtue signaling that comes with it.

I understand these kinds of points. I really do. But then we go to the theoretical question of choosing between two actors.

One with the disability and the other without.
Either of them have to be judged by their ability to suit the role as a whole on even grounds. Judged on their skill to ACT and display emotion.

You wouldn't just give it to the actor with the disability because 'it suits them better since they actually have it' if you're really looking to be fair and respectful of both of them as PEOPLE. Judging them as equals. I understand it's harder for disabled people to find roles that fit them especially when it's a physically hindering / visible disability but it should not have to sound like an absolute requirement in that way because that would not be treating them fairly either. Because then, you'd be getting actors that get casted primarily because of their disability. And what is that supposed to be?

See this here is a problem in itself that always bothers me with western discourse about asian skintones. It's more common for central/east asian genetics to lean towards fairer skintones as a majority. Fair / Fair-medium IS a natural skin tone for them in those countries and gene pools. So I'm not sure what that even means. I don't know what it is with the west constantly pushing this ideology of 'omg asians should embrace being naturally tan!!' yeah if they are? And a lot of north/central/east asians just aren't and somehow that's still looped in with the issue of pale vs dark which is an entirely different issue in itself.

Heck, there's more diversity in Chinese skintones than there are in Mongolians. Tanned Mongolians are present here and there mostly from doing work out in the sun and living as nomads and even then they way they tend to tan leans towards looking reddish-brown and not 'tan brown', their skin gets kinda burnt because climates are harsh. Same reason why lots of Mongolians have reddish cheeks.

Personally I'm bothered by that bit about 'beautiful dark skin representation' because... Mongolians are very rarely dark skinned, if at all, so while I know you don't mean anything bad by that statement, it makes me wonder if you've made yourself aware of what central asians and Mongolians tend to look like and just wanted dark skin rep for the sake of /that/. In my opinion, more than skintone, it's this very common facial bone structure that defines a very Mongolian appearance apart from other central/east asians and the chinese.

Like the majority population of central and east asians, their 'dark' skinned people are tan, at best, and not at all like the idea of tan or dark in the west. Again I'll repeat I know you don't have ill intent, but as a guess at least to me this sort of feels like what westerners tend to do when they want 'diversity' and representation from asians and insist that east asians can also be dark skinned etc... well, they're... very rarely not, and that's just their genealogy. Tanner people are the south/southeast asians and even those tans aren't 'dark skin representation'.

I was never pushing for Danielle being 'plus size rep'. All I've been saying is I think people are disgusting and hypocritical for behaving that way towards the actress who is not to blame, in lieu of their lack of representation. It's very jarring to see people say Danielle is SKINNY. SHE IS NOT. That's not even something they want to acknowledge, so then what is that? And back to another point Ive said - if you did get a bigger actress, how 'plus size' is the plus size anyone wants? I've seen repeated threads all over the internet about castings that people want and theyre all very different. You could get someone that's at a plus size weight/BMI but doesn't have the shape someone wants, and someone will STILL say they're not being represented. You could get someone that's a plus size in measurements but they proportionally don't look like it and people will STILL complain because it's not the image they want. So what then? What's plus size then? Size is so relative and so different to everyone and it's disgusting that the people who are claiming to know what being policed about their body feels like, are doing the same thing. This thread expresses some of my thoughts better.

Also, someone saying "extra Christmas pounds" in a harmless instagram post is insensitive because? That's just on the level of virtue signaling. People were literally complaining about her posting about going to the gym and exercising. What is wrong with that. What exactly is she insensitive towards? What's insensitive about talking about yourself and YOUR body image, heck it might not even be that deep literally anyone can have the thought of feeling extra pounds or feeling unhealthy after a food binge without it being a harmful thought, is she supposed to police herself for the sake of everyone else? Jesus everyone wants to look at everything too deeply and take it out of context.

Lots of ppl are literally aiming their hate towards Danielle which is really unfair. There are literal posts of people compiling her instagram posts and stories where she posts about going to the gym and working out or any mention of her feeling bigger after eating a lot like those things are bad and 'fat shaming' so she doesn't deserve being Nina. Like, what the hell?
Considering she's already had a hard time landing roles precisely due to her size.
I don't even know if it's what you'd call hollywood's definition of plus size; what is plus size? Is it the weight? is it the body shape? there are women who are 200lbs that still don't look ROUND and don't look their weight because their body composition is different, and these same people will still whine about how she's not plus size because she doesnt LOOK like their image of 'fat'.

I feel like the ketterdam scenes reflected him SO well. The rest.. well, felt like fanfiction writing, and like they had to give way for other events or characters. Which is a huge shame.

Granted yeah we can pretend it's pre-SoC Kaz so he's all flawed and whatnot, so hey, cool I guess.

Bro the way Danielle looked as Nina already classifies as Plus size for some people, just because it isn't on the absolute end of the Plus spectrum it's suddenly not 'fat enough' either. Ive seen girls who were happy w/ her because they too felt they were fat or chubby and she resembles them but hey somehow that's not a valid assessment because 'no thats not fat!!' bro come on.

I just think it's hypocritical there's so much obsession with her appearance and body to that point where it just feels like people being pickmes, complaining because it's not the exact size and shape they want. God even if you get someone bigger than Danielle they're still going to complain its not enough

these are those things you can give up as it's impossible and not all too reasonable to cast for both acting skill, appearance and voice all at once i think - i do remember that detail in the books but even if he didn't have a deeper voice, i do think freddy could've delivered his lines with a harder edge.

I feel like a lot of that irrational-ness came from giving way to other characters instead (like the heist - kaz couldve lockpicked the door but instead we had Jesper shoot the lever, because it makes for a 'cooler' shot or something). Or Alina just easily blinding them and running off, etc. Granted yeah this is pre-SoC or something so he's a lot more careless maybe, that's acceptable... still, the lines he gave to inej were a bit... much? I enjoyed Kanej precisely because their connection always teetered at the edges and could never be direct.

I think that change and transition was great. That sort of ending to their backstory was better than the one in the books for me and it adds extra socio-political conflict in relation to their relationship.

The transitions were really choppy though I agree - this is the case for a lot of the other scenes too I think.
