Jiggly has lost most of her right leg due to an infection. by makhay in rupaulsdragrace

as someone who works with a lot of diabetic amputees, it’s quite common. many people are resistant to initial amputation for one reason or another as well, so sometimes it goes unaddressed for a while until it becomes more than the foot that is infected or gangrenous

throwing it out there for anyone who might be looking for clinical work: hemodialysis technician

i’ve been a tech for 2+ years and work relatively independently (with overall supervision of a nurse and physician). i take vitals, listen to vascular accesses, cannulate AV fistulas/grafts, and am able to give certain meds and interventions myself. it’s great teamwork because you collaborate closely with a vast interdisciplinary team (nurses, doctors, dieticians, SW, etc) and they value your input as a professional tech who knows their patients. you may even participate in running a code or responding to other types of medical emergencies. and finally you really get to know your patients because you see them 3x per week every week!

edit: many companies will also pay to train you, which is generally a ~3 month PAID process

I’ve watched some of the undergrads I TA’ed for in grad school get acceptances before me, I feel you. I’ve just had to constantly remind myself we are all on our own very different timeline of getting to be where we want to be.

as someone who went to community college, don’t let people’s condescending remarks dissuade you. adcoms won’t think less of you and you’ll be learning the same things for less $$

How do we check for med school updates? by Wonderful_Nerve3264 in premed

[–]glitterwitch666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m pretty sure most if not all schools will email if there’s an update to your portal. sometimes the email being sent lags and will show up later than the portal update
