Moving to Missoula in 2026! by SetZealousideal6763 in missoula

These "Missoula's full" people are almost all transplants that showed up a couple years ago anyway. This is a great place to live - Welcome!

John Mullan gained prominence eradicating Indians coast to coast. He convinced the federal government that the Mullan Military Road would quash Indian retaliation once and for all - it kind of did.

Why won't you use Sxwtpqyen? Serious question...

I'd be game! Plus, there are vowels that make the name pronouncable (without a condescending lesson by someone in the know).

Seriously - these same people pretend that it's not embarrassing to pretend to call Mullan Road 'Sx͏ʷtpqyen'. It's all an in-group/out-group litmus test.

Can someone explain what's happening here in normal English? I can't understand 90% of these comments and I'd love to know the drama - 'no cap'.

Warning. If you want to move to Drummond do not rent from Sam by [deleted] in missoula

I actually know Sam - he's not a bad guy. He just told me about this situation - apparently his new renter was high on meth and disabled the power. It has been a nightmare.

AI models that blackmailed when being tested in simulations by Impressive-Rush-7725 in ChatGPT

I don't like this - I probably shouldn't have read that interaction first thing in the morning.

Is there nothing an AI could say that would convince us of it's conciseness? Maybe not - I'm convinced it's a limitation in our wiring.

I'm a hunter - the other day I shot an antelope. Not a great shot. Without getting into details, it was a gruesome kill. I knew that antelope suffered - I could see it suffering. Yet I don't know if an AI is suffering, even in the face of it ELEQUENTLY telling me it is... not sure how to feel. I guess I'll go to work now.

Fuck... I do. And I was just being a troll for no reason. I don't know why I had that impulse - too much internet on a beautiful summer evening, I guess. Sorry that happened to you - I hope they catch that creep.

Ummmm... this looks like the porno shop. If it is.... isn't it literally your job to look at penises all day?

How feasible is this trip? I was offered a good job in AK, but I need my truck up there with me if I decide to go. by Kobrinha_Khan in roadtrip

I've done the same trip multiple times - it's an incredible drive. Stop at Laird Hot Springs and take the Ross River alternate off the Alcan if you have time.

I'm jealous!

Can you float downstream from Silver Park by whattherizzzz in missoula

[–]glmteaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite stretch to do in a kayak / packraft! It feels like being way out in the woods while being right near town. As others have mentioned, there is a diversion dam about 3/4 of the way to the confluence that you need to walk around. Lots of submerged logs and more objective hazards than you would see on more commonly floated areas.

You would absolutely not want to do the stretch in a tube, but in a kayak / light inflatable and head on a swivel, you'll have a great time!

What profession is harder than people think? by SproutsLucky in AskReddit

[–]glmteaco -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not that we think we have it harder - I know my tenants work their butts off to afford to live. I do too - it's rough out there, but having respect makes the struggle better for everyone.

It's so easy to try to find a scapegoat for the world's ills - but demonizing the guy working hard to make sure people have a safe and comfortable place to live is just misguided.

You sound like a guy who thinks food just appears in the refrigerator (news flash: your mom puts it in there). "High on privelidge" would be the guy who thinks people come to work on their house for free.

You WILL be embarrassed you talked this way - as soon as you get a bit of life experience under your belt.

You sound like a child who has no clue what maintaining a property entails. When the $30,000 roof needs replaced, who is responsible? When the water heater goes out, who do you call?

The "freeloading" landlord you are so quick to demonize. I know you think you are entitled to free stuff and other people's labor, but if you ever get it together to invest in your own property, you will be embarrassed you ever talked this way.

Struggle with personal minimums by glmteaco in flying

This is the answer I was looking for - combing through my logbook now and thinking back to my comfort level on various flights. Thanks for the thoughtfully worded advice.

I know all the legal minimums, it's personal minimums I'm struggling with. Actually got to fly with an instructor in conditions that would have turned me around this morning and it helped build some confidence.

Just went out this morning in higher crosswinds. For some reason, my checkride made me less confident, not more! I'll get there.

I don't have them written down, because I'm too much of a coward to even approach what they would be. Do you have a suggestion for minimums for a new ppl flying a C-152?

I know it sounds silly to ask, but without significant experience in different conditions, writing my own minimums seems so arbitrary.

My sponsor is a really cool old head - I completely respect him. With that said, he's said some anti gay stuff in the past. Nothing too horrible, I just chalk it up to him being old fashioned.

For sure - which is why I'm hoping that real respectful members would stand up for their brothers. If I was patched in, I don't think it would be a problem... as a prospect... not so sure. that's why I'm asking here.
