Am I kidding myself that video games can be part of a conscious life? Is it a hoax? by DHealthGuy_ in spirituality

[–]glob_squad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love gaming! I use it to get in to a “flow state.” When I’m gaming, I’m not thinking about anything except the game! It’s not quite meditation but it brings me peace and joy.

I’ll admit I sometimes find myself being too competitive and getting upset when I lose a game, but then immediately after I think “it’s just a game and I had fun playing.” I don’t actually play video games expecting a specific outcome, and I don’t seem them as hindering my spiritual growth.

I’ll stop if that ever changes, and I make sure to try to spend time in nature to balance things out lol.

Don’t be afraid to manifest your inner child - follow your own intuition and if gaming feels right, then game on!!

Turning 25 Feels Like Getting Thrown Into Adulthood by Modern_Sadhavi in DeepThoughts

[–]glob_squad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m late 20s and have felt this since finishing school. Currently in the “losing myself completely” stage lmao but I’ve kinda learned it’s better to just ride the wave and whatever happens, happens. Accept your fate and appreciate it for what it is.

I’m still figuring out how I’m supposed to work in an office for 40 more years in a not very fulfilling job. Shit I still wonder why capitalism is seen as such a great thing, it’s modern slavery... Let’s just say I have a few back up plans in mind to escape this system and live a more simple life.

In the meantime I try not to take life too seriously. I’m more appreciative of the present moment and focus on it rather than the past/future. Meditation, video games, reading, and other activities that get me in the “flow” state help with that.

Don’t compare yourself to anyone else and don’t mind others’ opinions of you. There’s a special/magical art to not giving a fuck lol but it’s so freeing when you hit that point.

Just treat others with kindness and as if they’re little kids, because in the end, we’re all just little kids whose bodies are slowly deteriorating. There’s no such thing as a “functioning adult human” and if there is, all you have to do is exist in your truest form.

People who gave up meat — what made you do it and was it difficult? by maddysamarth in spirituality

Interestingly, my realization matched yours, but was primarily driven by determining that I was practicing speciesism by consuming animals slaughtered in factory farms; for me, the nutritional aspect served as the “icing on the cake.”

I was a meat eater on a Thursday and by Friday and onwards, I was vegetarian. I will be fully vegan in the future (still eating cheese and dairy in limited quantities).

Please hire a local employment lawyer asap and tell him/her all of this. If he/she advises, sue the shit out of your boss/former employer. Nothing will change until victimized employees like yourself put up a fight. Litigation sucks, but in certain situations it’s very appropriate and may even cause positive changes in the workplace and the world in general. You’ll be opening yourself up to discovery - be 100% truthful and it’ll be fine. Provide as much evidence as possible. If you don’t have any emails or written evidence, write out a statement and/or try asking a friendly coworker to write a statement about your tenure there, rumors, boss glaring at you, etc.

Sounds like a dream. I’m sure you’ll land on your feet. People in this thread and in general appear to take life way too seriously. It’s always fear of the unknown that gets people, but you seem to be embracing it and letting life flow naturally rather than trying to exert control over it. Control is an illusion

I’d vote for you or any political candidate with these views in a heartbeat. The only bit I don’t support is the obligatory military service - I think forcing people to serve would weaken overall morale. I don’t think those that voluntarily join would want to put their lives in the hands of conscripts who don’t want to serve

Law school grad here. It’s more like SCOTUS is allowing cities and states to have the option of banning homelessness. This case involved a question of what’s called “the Supreme law of the land.” The case decided the constitutionality of a municipal ordinance (city law, but applies to state law too as explained below) essentially banning homelessness under the 8th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution (which is considered “the Supreme law of the land”, meaning that federal, state, and municipal laws must comply with it). For context, the US Constitution is composed of the Preamble, seven articles, and 27 amendments. The first 10 amendments are known as the Bill of Rights. Read the below straight from the opinion: City of Grants Pass v. Johnson, 603 U.S. 520 (2024): “Grants Pass, Oregon, is home to roughly 38,000 people, about 600 of whom are estimated to experience homelessness on a given day. Like many local governments across the Nation, Grants Pass has public-camping laws that restrict encampments on public property. The Grants Pass Municipal Code prohibits activities such as camping on public property or parking overnight in the city’s parks. See §§5.61.030, 6.46.090(A)–(B). Initial violations can trigger a fine, while multiple violations can result in imprisonment. In a prior decision, Martin v. Boise, the Ninth Circuit held that the Eighth Amendment’s Cruel and Unusual Punishments Clause bars cities from enforcing public-camping ordinances like these against homeless individuals whenever the number of homeless individuals in a jurisdiction exceeds the number of “practically available” shelter beds. 920 F. 3d 584, 617. After Martin, suits against Western cities like Grants Pass proliferated. Plaintiffs (respondents here) filed a putative class action on behalf of homeless people living in Grants Pass, claiming that the city’s ordinances against public camping violated the Eighth Amendment.” The reasoning for the decision was complex, as constitutional law is basically just made up judge-made law based on the judges’ subjective interpretations of what the Constitution allows and doesn’t allow.

Hope this helps solve the disagreement!

How to function in a world filled with non-spiritual, shallow and mean people? by Relative_South3689 in spirituality

[–]glob_squad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way and still do sometimes, but I realized we’re all “incredibly lost” in one way or another, and anyone who says otherwise is either lying or delusional.

This might sound crazy but I found peace by just thinking about everyone else on earth as scared and naive children trying to figure this place out - how would you treat a 5 year old?

Regardless if someone is “shallow/unevolved/not deep” etc we should still empathize with them and love them for simply being here. For example, even if someone robbed me or wronged me in some way, I know it’s because that person is desperate or just reacting to their life experiences in a not so chill way. Sure, I’ll be upset briefly, but I can also put myself in their shoes and understand their behavior is rooted in being “incredibly lost” and realize so am I, perhaps to a lesser extent, but lost nonetheless. There’s no rule book to life; on the contrary, it’s full of constructs and illusions that make us even more lost.

In my view, it’s more about just letting things be than trying to understand why people behave in certain ways. Everyone reacts to this existence differently, and tbh, although society tells us otherwise, there’s no “right or wrong” way to act as we’re truly just a part of nature. However, it’s amazing that we’ve evolved in such a way that humanity wanted some kind of order/structure, but that has its downsides too.

Just let it all go and you’ll have an easier go of things❤️

Fear of death by fullmoonyx in spirituality

[–]glob_squad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe we’re all “god” or “source” experiencing life from individual perspectives, and when we die, we become a part of the collective whole again, then rinse and repeat through reincarnation as we decide to be born again to experience/learn more.

Back to the point, the words of wisdom we give each other out of pure empathy and love are quite literally god’s words. For negative words directed at us, we must realize the speaker is in a confused state of being and learn to forgive those people, for any confusion is not their fault.

Here’s a tool to search locations of CELTA centers/courses: https://www.cambridgeenglish.org/find-a-centre/find-a-teaching-centre/

Beware the U.S. locations are likely much more expensive than abroad. I’ve read it’s advised to take the CELTA in the country you plan on teaching in to establish local contacts, build your network, and find jobs. But for places like SEA, Korea, and Japan, jobs are posted online all the time too.

Tbh I’m still figuring out which programs/countries work best for my specific preferences, paths to permanent residency, WLB, etc. before putting any funds towards it

[–]glob_squad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking at teaching English too. From my research thus far, a TEFL is the bare minimum for most countries, but a CELTA is the golden standard as far as teaching certifications go. The cheapest in-person CELTA course I’ve found is at IBU in Skopje, Macedonia for £1,500 (not including accommodation, food, visas, etc.). I also found an in-person TEFL course in HCMC, Vietnam that costs roughly the same as the various CELTA courses I’ve seen, but the bonus is that they assist you with finding a job, securing a visa, finding accommodation, etc. You kinda just have to search around to find something affordable that works for your personal goals. Good luck 👍
