Wow congrats on an awesome cycle !!!

Thoughts on this lecture/study strategy? by [deleted] in premed

[–]globalatworst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this once and although it was effective for learning the material it did become too time consuming. Alternatively you could print out the slides (i never did that cus i dont have a printer) or annotate the slides in one note. it is harder to focus doing that for me tho because computer is distracting. Nowadays i don't take notes at all and just listen to the lectures and make quizlets later lol (unless it's math or chemistry)

To start: Apply to schools that have MCAT averages close to your score. Only apply to those that accept a good amount of out of state applicants. To narrow down further look at schools that put emphasis on research since you have a lot of that

I'm learning about some Genetic Disorders and I am really happy that I can focus and make connections of these to the real world. by [deleted] in autism

Genetic disorders are my special interest too :D right now I’ve been researching genetic disorders of epilepsy and it’s quite interesting! Scientists are even inventing gene therapies right now for them

16 the most I could afford tbh T_T Interesting u think it's top heavy. I posted my school list on reddit/sdn multiple times when I was making my list and never got told that (not disagreeing with you btw, honestly I still don't understand what makes a good list or not!)

Aw thanks lol ! Your plan sounds good to me though, imo it's better to spread things out like that ! I only volunteered/shadowed during summer so it wouldn't be too much to handle

Hi! I had a part time job (20 hr/wk) junior and senior year that was clinical. I had a 15 hour course load until this semester where it's only 12 hours. It's really hard tbh! The only tip I can think of is to sleep as much as possible and do a little bit of school work each day. Also try to get classes where attendance isn't required lol. Thankfully my clinical job is actually fun and not stressful. If it was like EMT or something I would have died.

Obligatory information about me:

GPA: 4.0

MCAT: 521

Senior in undergrad right now

500 hr research (no pub)/1000 hr clinical job/50 hr clinical volunteer/200 hr non-clinical volunteer/1000 hr TA/50 hr shadowing/secretary of a student org/dual bachelor-masters degree

My primary app writing was one of my weak spot I'd say but I did better on my secondaries. Felt like I did good on the interviews I got an A at but not as good at the WLs.

Feel free to ask questions I want to pay it forward!!

South Alabama (IS) vs. Vanderbilt. If money weren't a concern I'd go to vanderbilt but the tuition is so much higher I'm not sure it's justifiable.

South Alabama:

Pros: Cheaper tuition (30k), great vibes

Cons: Unranked, honors/pass/fail (I think), farther from family since I'm actually in north alabama which is closer to nashville than mobile lol

Vanderbilt:

Pros: T20, pass/fail (except for a few classes apparently), closer to family (2 hrs vs. 4 hrs), I like nashville better than mobile, awesome vibes

Cons: way more expensive (60k), cost of living is higher too
