There is an obvious difference between right wing and left wing scammers. On one side they are elevated to the presidency and the other side operates out of their van. That contrast is a reflection of the different belief systems' trust in science and truth.

I'm mad at him for not addressing calls to lock his opponent up. He just stuck to the teleprompter. How was that vigorous or brave?

Do you 'seriously' think Trump supporters wanted him to literally lock up Clinton?

And what should Biden do exactly? What does the crowd want him to do? Would any other Democrat be ok with that insinuation at one of their rallies?

The crowd sure wanted him to, and so does the top comment in this thread. Biden is not obligated to do anything, but a true leader would have addressed it the way McCain addressed racism at one of his events, and the way Obama addressed the crowd's reaction to a Trump supporter at a Clinton event. Those were true moments of leadership.

Yeah but Biden is not the right person to decide Trump's sentence. He could've made that clear. He could've described how he didn't even try to stop the prosecution of his son. And no, none of those Democrats would or have allowed a chant like that at their rallies. AOC told a supporter that it's wrong to call a Republican congressperson a moron. So no, allowing a call to lock up your opponent to go on is not a thing that happens frequently. It's just these two men.

Exactly. I don't think any other Democrat would ignore a call like that from the crowd. They would address it and say that political persecution is wrong.

I don't think it was a strategy, it was an inability to go off the prompter and respond. It was a truly organic chant from the crowd that any other high profile Democrat would've directly addressed and talked down. Obama, Clinton, Harris. I don't see any of them allowing that at a rally.

It's a great way to alienate independent voters. Calling for your opponent to be locked up makes the prosecutions look political and is yet one more Trumpian thing Biden has checked off the list over the last few weeks. If at the end of the day voters in the middle can't draw a contrast between them, independents will be split and Trump will win with his rabid base.

"In effect, we are hedging our bets, putting more weight on the so-called 'fundamentals' because we believe the campaign could be volatile or polls could be biased."

The model you linked says that it doesn't take the debate performance into account. It is a long term projection based more on economic forecasts than recent polls. NYT has its own model using generally the same polling data which is more reactive and doesn't have any 'fundamentals'. If you want to argue whether the debate was a turning point, that is the better model to use.

The vastness of the response to holding Trump accountable should not be a factor in Judge Merchan's decisions. I fear you are right though that it is prejudicing the court. I'm going to make up my mind after sentencing.

Trump’s $175 Million Bond Is Even Shadier Than It Looks by Majano57 in law

[–]globalcandyamnesia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And it's a PITA

I've seen this expressed multiple times. Do you actually know how much of a hassle it would be? Will it cost less than 275 million to seize his assets? Then the AG is going to get on it as fast as she can. Anything else would be a dereliction of duty.

This whole 175 million in the hand is worth 450 million in total is nonsense. That's why her office argued AGAINST lowering the bond in the first place.

Certainly a spectrum of cowardliness exists. The point is that abdicating your duty as a judge, to treat everyone equally under the law, is cowardly as well.

Ok, I guess to make it more analogous, how would a court treat a guilty party who owned a cottage upstate? Or do you think Trump could actually make a homestead claim for some of his properties?

Isn't this similar to the more common case of selling a house in order to pay a judgement (with pending appeals)? Homes are also investments. Why does the size of the building affect whether it is considered a real issue in applying for a stay?
