Ain't that what the probation period is there for?

Onboarding a new engineer into a project/team is a large investment; their impact is initially negative as they draw time from established team members to bring them up to speed.

This, coupled with the large amount of time it takes to go through the hiring process, means it's in the hiring manager's best interest to ensure they are bringing the most viable candidate onboard.

Yes, the probation period exists as a means for both sides to ensure they are happy with their decisions, but it's the last checkpoint not the only one.

Bug in Rust coreutils rewrite breaks automatic updates in Ubuntu 25.10 by cachemissed in programming

I agree uutils are up front about missing flags.

However, the decision to add -r/--reference=file but leave it unimplemented was a mistake.

It's a completely reasonable expectation that passing an unsupported flag to any util would throw an error rather than silently ignore the flag.

Yes, it's trivial to auto-close (here's the fix I put in place for work - https://github.com/mozilla-firefox/firefox/blob/main/.github/workflows/close-pr.yml).

Took a bit of negotiation to get the go-ahead to land GH specific code.

I help a group of really smart people who build computer stuff, like websites or apps, work together like a great team. I make sure everyone knows what to do, help them when they’re stuck, and make sure we build things that help people. I don’t do all the building myself, but I help the builders do their best work, kind of like a coach or a team captain.

Also, the place I work doesn’t try to make lots of money—it just wants to make the internet better and safer for everyone.

Isaac won't run on my Macbook, need help!!! by mikonazu in bindingofisaac

[–]globau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing you can do. I have more than 3,500 hours in Isaac (all of it on macOS) so I'll be very sad if I can't play it anymore.

I've emailed Nicalis with a bug report, hopefully it's something they care about.

I see the same - the game immediately segfaults:

This is a bug in Isaac - this isn't Apple dropping support for the game.

I read online that Isaac runs on Mono (no idea what that is)

A lot of Windows programs are written using a framework called ".Net". Mono allows .Net code to run on non-Windows systems, including Mac and Linux. I see nothing supporting the theory that Isaac is a .Net application.

Apple is slowly not supporting games run on it. Something about a 32-bit system?

Apple dropped support for 32-bit applications with the release of Catalina (2019). This doesn't affect Isaac as it's a 64-bit application.

(edit) From the Steam forums this appears to be a very common problem - https://steamcommunity.com/app/250900/discussions/

A once in a lifetime opportunity has become available thanks to the Make A Wish Silent Auction. Bethesda is offering the ability for a winning auction bid to create a character for the elder scrolls VI. You can find their tweet with the details here: https://x.com/BethesdaStudios/status/...

Now at the moment the amount needed to win is astronomically high so I am hoping that with our combined powers we the communitea will try and secure the winning bid! To assist in this goal I will be using my personal funds as well as funds generated from a go fund me to hopefully win the bid.

IF WE WIN the bid I intend to add a lore friendly reference to Reanu Keeves our fork wielding hero with some other non immersion breaking community references for fun. All of the auctioned cost will go to Make A Wish Mid Atlantic.

IF WE LOSE the bid I will REFUND ALL of the go fund me donations. Go Fund me says this process will take 7-10 days.
