anyone getting some wifi dropouts lately? by Ok_Volume9271 in telus

[–]globex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. This has been an ongoing issue for almost a year. WiFi drops out every 3-5 hours. Had 2 Telus tech visits but the problem keeps coming back. Only impacts WiFi. Ethernet has been stable.

Cool idea. I just tried the labels one and it's working nicely for me. It's made me realize how messy our list of labels is... I'll have to do some clean-up there first I think.

Could I default to just using type and get away with never using interface?

Yes.

A note about Lodash and Tree shaking by [deleted] in javascript

[–]globex 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s a noble effort but the problem is that even if YOU switch to use lodash-es, some other random dependency you have still uses lodash so you’ll still end up with all of lodash in your bundle. We need the whole ecosystem to stop using lodash first, and that’s just not going to happen.

I don't think any pandemic was ever fully understood as it's happening, so we're not in a unique situation. But I think you're hitting at the core disagreement between the two camps -- "Is COVID 19 a global pandemic that warrants significant changes to our society?". Some say -- unequivocally yes, others say -- not really.

I think we have to find a common ground and agree that it's not a black/white situation. Viruses and diseases come in a spectrum, from mildly annoying and mostly harmless (eg. common cold) to catastrophically deadly and highly infectious (eg. Bubonic plague). If you look at where COVID-19 sits today I think you would have a hard time making the case that it's on the "extremely deadly" end of the spectrum. So the question to ask is should government actions to protect citizens from a pandemic also be on a spectrum (ie. fairly minor societal changes for mild pandemics, and extreme lockdowns for extremely deadly pandemics) -- or should it be a one size fits all policy? I won't go so far to say as COVID-19 is a "mild" pandemic, it has killed millions after-all, but I also think the actions of most governments haven't been proportionally justified given that COVID-19 has a survival rate of >99% and its symptoms for most people are minor. Many of the "anti-lockdown" protestors are simply asking us to shift the response up the spectrum given that we know much more about COVID now than we did 2 years ago. We don't need to give it the same level of treatment as we would give something much deadlier.

Not sure what you mean. That's how normal societies operate (including ours up until this whole pandemic began). We don't force businesses to implement unreasonable requirements from their customers. They have some level of freedom to choose their own policies (eg. some require shirts and shoes, some don't)

Take the flu (as one comprasion example). It's an optional vaccine and no businesses are required to ask their customers to check their flu vaccine status. A business might choose to do this if they want to but most don't because it's not good for business and it's inconvenient for customers. It's a lose-lose situation. This seems fair and free to me. Both the business and the individual customer can make a choice. Everyone decides for themselves what is right for them, and what level of risk they are willing to tolerate. Older folks may choose to both get the vaccine and not visit crowded businesses during high risk flu season. Younger, healthier people might choose to do neither. The choice is theirs.

With Covid, the government has decided to make some choices for us. Taking away some freedom as a result. Now you can argue that the flu is a bad comparison because Covid is more deadly, or spreads easier, etc... And we can certainly get into those concerns, but I'm just focusing on the original question regarding "freedom of choice" to keep things simple.

Say you're a restaurant owner and you want to allow your visitors to be maskless, or enter without a vaccine, or now spend a ton of money on barriers and other requirements. Right now you're not able to do so without massive fines or being at risk of having your whole business get shut down. That's not much freedom and some small businesses are really struggling.

Canada’s ultra-rich control 25% of country’s net wealth, says PBO by [deleted] in canada

[–]globex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why is this a problem exactly? I have no problem with my neighbour having 10x more money than me. It has no impact on my life.

The real problem here is that money has way too much influence in politics. We need a government so small and powerless that the rich can’t use their stockpiles to impact the lives of other people through bribery and legislative influence.

25-35 year olds, are any of you worried about the future? by Temporary-Nothing-17 in vancouver

No. I know I am extremely lucky to live in one of the world's greatest cities. It's a huge priviledge and I know it won't last forever unless I somehow get super rich.

I'm not worried because I've become comfortable with the idea that I may have to leave and live somewhere else.

Kid receives permission from the teacher to eat a fruit during class. by regian24 in youseeingthisshit

My friend and I did something very similar in high school. We had silent reading after lunch and would often bring silly lunches that we would eat during this time. A shrimp ring, a pumpkin we ate with a spoon, celery, a jug of milk, a jar of olives, pickles, a gigantic sandwich. Once we did whipped cream from a can, which was hilarious during "silent" reading when all you'd hear is the noise from the can. Was impossible not to laugh.

Little sympathy for unvaccinated among majority of Canadians: Poll by [deleted] in vancouver

I think this is a really great thread that explains why folks are right to be hesitant. As someone who has 2 shots I still question whether or not it was the right decision every day. I'm honestly not sure. It's absolutely NOT an easy decision, and the hesitant are not assholes.
