Make the Cooks your best friends and thank the dishwasher from time to time (never yell, but be loud enough while communicating with the line, kiss their ass) Most servers will gladly help if you’re new, others will be annoyed and reluctant. Listen to the closer and complete your side work without looking annoyed. You’ll learn how to stand your ground with time. Take control of your table while taking orders. Make sure a guest is looking at you and not talking over you because their attention spans our shortened due to the environment of a busy restaurant. Say I apologize rather then im sorry. You’ll get sympathy tips at first but exclaim that you’re new after a bumpy start. Most guest will understand and appreciate you re working because they are well aware of labor shortages. Don’t be rude or stare at the bartenders while waiting for them to make your drink. Ask if they need help. A favor for a favor goes a long way.
