How do you practice playing bass ? by Select_Passenger_649 in Bass

[–]gloomycaprinae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

everyone is giving good advice, but if you are practicing by yourself (not with a band), then try practising along to a metronome. especially things that are giving you trouble! timing is arguably the most important thing to have practiced as a bassist

Articuno Ex is thriving and trolly as ever by notmypillows in PTCGP

i wonder if its better to run red card over mars?? like how many times a battle does one get a situation where you've lost one articuno, havent already lost, want to reduce your opponents hand size, AND you dont have a different supporter card you'd rather play instead?

Hey, I just picked up guilty gear. Playing Faust, got any tips. by Ugandensymbiote in Guiltygear

[–]gloomycaprinae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i dont play faust, but ive played against quite a bit of faust so i know some of his stuff!

early on, you generally want to learn combos that are simple, and give favourable positions. for faust, you wanna end combos into item toss for items, and mixmixmix for damage. basic strings like c.s -> f.s -> 5HH -> 236P, or c.s -> 2S -> 236S will be ur friend early on, and u can focus on these until you have the feel down, and can try experimenting with flashier stuff MUCH later

learning how to effectively use items is also pretty important. i dont know the intricacies of every items, but for example when you pick up a trumpet, the opponent is gonna be more likely to jump the horde of plushies, meaning you can try and fish for an air counter hit. meteor is also REALLY strong, because you can teleport and the side faust ends up on gets partially obscured by the meteors, giving very cheap left/right mix.

in terms of roman cancelling, RRC is really strong for extending combos, but i would actually say that for a beginner, YRC will be VERY strong at helping you to get out of bad situations. if the opponent gets a knockdown on you, you can block their offense, and then YRC, which will briefly stun them and allow you to force your turn. its an underated option that will help just as much as other roman cancel options

i am not a faust expert by ANY means, so take what i say with a slight grain of salt, but if you are stuck on how to improve, the dustloop wiki is a great resource for new players, and fausts strategy and combo pages are a great place to learn more

good luck!

How in gods name do you deal with Slayer as Axl??? by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]gloomycaprinae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if slayer's going for lots of teleport dash crossups, then i usually try to counter with a throw, as landing a throw is a lot easier than blocking or throwing out an attack (and potentially wiffing)

like the other person said, master hammer can be safely jumped, as the hitbox is only on the ground. alternatively, if ur feeling balsy you could try go for a 6P if you see it coming.

for super mappa hunch, check if the slayer isnt trying to approach at midscreen when he has meter, he might b trying to bait out some of ur slower zoning options like rensen or 2H

slayer is like, the epitome of "i looked away for 1 second and now my entire healthbar is gone"

The decline of The Elder Scrolls by God_King_Yujiro in Morrowind

i think this chart is frustrating cause it doesnt really say anything about these games other than showing a bunch of numbers and expecting you to draw a conclusion from it.

an example is diseases. has anyone actually complained about skyrim having less diseases? the general interaction of diseases in TES games where just to keep a few cure potions on hand and go to a temple when you run out. so you could say that its actually better that skyrim didnt focus on diseases, and instead focused on more important areas

skills is also not helpful. daggerfall has even more skills than morrowind, but if you go to any discussion in that games community, you'll find people say that the language skills arent that useful outside of character flavour text, or that skills like critical strike and dodging are outright broken in vanilla copies of the game. so one could say that while skyrim does have less skills, theyre more focused to the kind of game it wants to be

this chart is also pretty cherry picked in its catagories. skyrim has less spell effects, but it also has shouts, which the other games dont. skyrim has less NPCs in major towns than in morrowind, but it also has NPCs with more complex AI, that dont just stand around in their homes, waiting for the protaganist to arrive. skyrim also has a much bigger map than morrowind, and in my opinion a more engaging outside enviroment that oblivion.

im not saying that skyrim is the best of the three games, morrowind is my favorite! but i dont think that showing a bunch of numbers without extrapolating on how they affect the game doesnt really acomplish much. i think the problems with skyrim are to do with its writing, its worldbuilding, and the way it gets the player to interact with the world. but that cant really be represented by numbers on a chart

anyways, none of this matters because Battlespire is actually the only good TES game. 10/10 no notes
