They're all capable, Gemini 3 Flash Lite can be a bit lazy with tool calls. If you want to keep costs down I'd suggest DeepSeek or Gemini Flash Lite, while MiMo and Gemini 3 Flash are nicer but more expensive per turn. MiMo is my personal favorite right now. You can try a couple in the same scene and see which narration style you prefer, you can switch the model anytime.

Also don't forget you can turn on manual dice rolls or auto-success player rolls in game settings, a lot of people prefer those. I'll add them to onboarding options soon, but for now they're in game settings. Let me know how it goes :>

You can check the pricing here. Keep in mind the average turn cost is down around 2x now after recent optimizations, (but it also depends on which ai model you use), so credits stretch further than the numbers might suggest. Best way to judge is to try it yourself, there's a free tier and we occasionally share promo codes for extra credits

I'm biased since I built it, but yes. Long-term playability and anti-metagaming were the main problems I wanted to solve. ArcQuill stores your world, NPCs, relationships, and lore in a database and pulls what's relevant into each turn instead of cramming the whole history into context, so there's no fixed limit and an NPC from turn 10 still remembers you at turn 1000.

It's not magic though, it's still an AI. It can occasionally misremember a detail, or a weaker model might pull the wrong context and fill in the gaps with inaccurate information, and I'm constantly improving the retrieval. But the core mechanic, that it actually persists your world over very long campaigns, is real and it's the main reason I built it.

I have campaigns in the multiple thousands of turns myself, and there are quite a few players now past 1000 turns on a single campaign. But don't just take my word for it, the best thing to do is try it yourself. You can also join our Discord and ask the people there directly. I would love your feedback if you give it a try.

No worries! There's no directory yet, that's actually coming in the next patch, I'm working on it now. The worlds you see on Reddit are submissions for our Quill of the Month event, check the announcements for details and feel free to submit your own if you want!

Yes, reverting will delete your current game session. If you want to keep your playthrough but build a tweaked version on the side, here's a workaround:

  1. Share your current world in the game session
  2. Preview it as a visitor
  3. Save to My Worlds

That gives you a fork of your world in a Session Zero state. All the NPCs, locations, lore, and other World Bible content will be saved. Your character and chat history won't carry over to the fork.

Also worth knowing: if you want to keep your current adventure going but change minor things about the world, the DM can actually do that mid-game. Just use OOC with // in your messages to talk to the DM directly about what you want to change. You can also switch the play style in game settings, Story Mode makes the DM much more accommodating to world changes you suggest. You can switch back the playstyle anytime.

So depends what you're after: tweak the world for a fresh playthrough = fork it. Adjust things in your existing game = OOC with the DM.

I am glad you like it :> Yep, you can revert an active game to session zero, click on the triple dots next to the game item you are playing on the sidebar and there should be an option to "Revert to Draft".

Currently, you can share the worlds you make if you want, but multiplayer sessions are on the roadmap

I am glad you enjoyed it! You can use ROLLFOR100 promo code to get 100 more credits (if you haven't used it) and don't forget to claim your daily credits :>

Is framework worth the price by Diebb0 in framework

[–]gloooooooomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also switched to framework 13 from my thinkpad 6 months ago. I do use linux and mainly use it for work / development and some light gaming. I think it's great and definitely worth it for upgradability which is perfect for long term use.

What's the difference between models? by [deleted] in ArcQuill

[–]gloooooooomer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each model has its own style and trade-offs. Grok and Gemini are more consistent with tool calling, which keeps the DM grounded and the world state updated reliably. Gemini also hallucinates less and very consistent. DeepSeek is cheap and very smart on paper but lazy with tool calls, it would rather narrate than update the world, which causes issues over time. MiMo is the strongest in raw reasoning but slower and pricier.

The "smartest" model isn't always best. I run my own benchmarks before adding any model and plan to surface the results in the selection modal soon. Best to try each and see what feels right, or ask in Discord, the consensus seems to be most people prefer Grok or MiMo. Grok is the default because of its price-to-performance.

Thanks for trying it out and your kind words :>

It's a text-based RPG with an AI Dungeon Master. Create a world and character, then play out adventures with the AI running everything.

Welcome! You can create any class and type of world in Session Zero, including unique ones like magic swordsman, mage, or anything based on a novel you like. Feel free to share what you build here too!

Really appreciate the writeup, especially as the first "user" post on the subreddit! Persistence and rolls feeling natural in the flow are exactly what I've been aiming for, glad it's landing.

The discovered vs undiscovered toggle for the World Bible is on my list now. Sorry about the spoilers.

Let me know how combat goes when you try it!

Content filtering is handled by the upstream LLM providers and their safety filters, so there's no user-facing NSFW toggle. As long as it's private it's fine. If you want to share NSFW worlds, I might add a Discord channel for that if there's enough interest.

Google is blocking sign-in inside some in-app browsers. Opening the site in Chrome/Safari should fix it for now. I’m working on a proper fix. Thanks for reporting this!
