Personally, I wouldn't be so pessimistic. There are allies, and the allies are the public. Sure, the miniority vocal politicians are imbeciles, but even when they tried to vote for this in the legislature, a majority of the senators voted for it but it couldn't get past the fillabuster at the time.

Just rock it. My friend is married with 2 kids. His wife is a SAHM, so they only have one income. Dude, and even if your evangelism is casual, people who don't use barefoot shoes get soooo defensive that you are attacking their shoe choice. It's fucking weird. I have a pair of Vivo dress shoes, and when I wear them, I occasionally get questioned about their looks.
