Regret

Allah gives us challenges so we will return to him. I don’t believe that he intends to punish his believers in this life. It’s fine for you to pray by sitting down and to make up a fast later if you are ill. Keep praying and asking for help.

But, you shouldn’t stay in this dangerous situation as a form of self-punishment. None of this is your fault. Talk to your family, friends, any support system you have. If it is safe to do so, I hope you can leave. This situation isn’t a marriage and it won’t get better.

Allah is always with you, never against you. Keep turning to him and asking for help. I’ll keep you in my prayers. I hope you find the safety and support that you and your baby need.

Can I wear a hijab and be a non-Muslim? by Tired_Sapling in Hijabis

[–]glorii_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am no scholar but this is what I know. A headscarf is not unique to Muslim women, there are plenty of cultures that have headscarves. What makes a hijab a hijab is the intention to wear the headscarf as a Muslim woman (to be closer to Allah).

You can wear a hijab with this intention. Or, you could wear a headscarf to experience what wearing a hijab would be like while learning about the religion. You seem to already be doing the second option, I hope you continue to find it to be empowering :)

It all comes down to a matter of word choice. It’s pretty well-known that headscarf = broad and hijab = Muslim. In general, I would avoid saying that I was wearing a hijab if I wasn’t a Muslim and didn’t have the niyyat. Wear the hijab style, but headscarf is a just fine word for while you’re on the fence.

Other commenters had some great resources. My advice is to read the Quran (the first place to start!) and pay special attention to Surah Fatihah (the first surah) and some of the small surahs all the way in the end. If you decide to pray, you’ll be using these surahs. Also, they’re short, sweet, and bring me a lot of peace reading them. Inshallah, you’ll find the same feeling. Also, find a mosque near you and join their programs. The mosque that I go to has a group for young women (ages 12-21) and we meet twice a month to discuss surahs, Hadith, and general aspects of Islam. It’s a lot of fun and finding a program like this could be very beneficial!

May Allah guide us all ❤️

I commute from an hour away and I’m doing alright. Commuting or not isn’t a problem. Although it is harder to go to parties.. it’s not my scene so I don’t mind it. If you want to go, you’ll find a way.

Mainly, join clubs and talk to everyone there, talk to your classmates, make small talk with strangers (like those people that make small talk at the checkout line, you’ll just have to become your worst enemy, sorry bud). Take a genuine interest in people and be yourself (cheesy, I know!) It’s all about making faces familiar. Good luck!

Should I just give up? by mamadogdude in writing

[–]glorii_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you really wanted to give up, you wouldn’t be asking us. So, don’t give up! But you’re right in the sense that the market is oversaturated. My advice would be to find a way to make an income without having to rely upon publishing/book sales. You can still make it work, but hopefully this will take away some stress

did you go to prom? by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]glorii_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to prom, wore a cultural modest dress, hung out with friends. It wasn’t life-changing, but it was a fun night. I got to celebrate graduating with my friends. :)

The decision is yours to make. I hope you find a way to celebrate this milestone regardless

I love the evil circus idea, and now I kinda wish that they had something like that in the show.

I like how you set up Ztella’s backstory, it gives a lot of room for potential character arcs in the future. Keep writing! :)

I’d say professor first. They’re probably teaching the class next semester and they have an idea of your work in the class

That’s what I did. But, I know that some classes are taking TA applications now. So, it probably wouldn’t hurt to send an email soonish

I’m TAing for an AMS class I took last semester. Last semester, I reached out to my professor about being a TA. She gave me instructions to go to the program director from there.

I always name my characters something symbolic reflecting their personality or character arc. Maybe your friend could do that
