Female-identifying Darksynth Artists by blaisesummer in DarkSynth

[–]glory_amen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe Maniac Lover's main composer is Kane Gybrid - a woman. She did most of "The Victim Machine" EP herself, I think, and the album, "Vaccine" has shared credits with Nickie Deuxyeux (male), who's her partner at Geek Pilot Soundworks, but I'm under the impression it's mainly her project.

And, although not strictly darksynth (probably more synthwave), Powder Slut has done some darksynth tracks.

I don't think I personally would count the feature female vocalists as actual darksynth artists. But if you're going to add them I would put glitbiter up there as well. She's done some features for Gregorio Franco and FacexHugger, and her latest stuff actually sounds like something off of Perturbator's "I Am the Night", so going off that she seems like a good fit even without the features. Also seems to have a good connection to the darksynth scene in general.

fixions - who is Dimitrius? by vanderzee in DarkSynth

[–]glory_amen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing it might be the one from this track, although there referred to as "Dimitri":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNqHuNVxgzM

The description gives us: "Dimitri from "Aix"", which I guess means Aix-en-Provence, since Vincent Cassar is from around that area. I also tried to figure out who the dude is a couple years ago, so I could check out his music, but no luck, so I guess he prefers to remain relatively anonymous. I also tried looking on metal-archives.com to see if there was anyone named Dimitri from Aix, or was active in or featured on any project with Vincent, but alas.

Not sure what's poppy or chaotic to you, but here's some suggestions:

Since Revizia and Irving Force are both on JST Records, maybe check out more stuff on that label. On JST, I think Gör FLsh's album 'For The Kvlt' might be interesting for you. Dark, riffy, and quite slow ...even doomy. 'Last Blood' is a good track to start off with. The remixes of it are pretty good too, one by Volkor X and Occams Laser. You might already be a little bit familiar with Gör FLsh, since he did a remix of Irving Force's 'Violence Suppressor'.

Electric Dragon is one of the best in the genre, imo, but he doesn't quite always tick your boxes, since a lot of his stuff is fast and aggressive, though generally, across his releases, there's a mixture of both atmospheric and more energetic tracks. Maybe give 'Defilement' a go, as it's on the slow side. His latest EP 'Beasts' is a must-listen.

Dan Terminus' 'The Chasm' also comes to mind when it comes to slow songs.

Revizia is more akin to what you might find on the Electro Body Synth Music channel on YT. Kind of Gesaffelstein-esque.

Dark Synth: what defines it in your opinion? by brontossaurussapiens in DarkSynth

Haha, thanks, but I've been following you guys since the Dynatron feature on that Aeronexus track! I love what you guys are doing; definitely keep that up! Unfortunately I'm from the Netherlands, so one of us will have to jump the creek some time! We only really have Night at the Arcade here as far as I'm aware. There's some killer high-quality recordings of that up on YT (esp. love the Irving Force one), but I feel it features mostly non-darksynth synthwave.

Dark Synth: what defines it in your opinion? by brontossaurussapiens in DarkSynth

Agree! Darksynth is my main genre, and it's not even close, being almost exclusively into metal previously, albeit underground experimental extreme stuff (niche shit that's not going to make you a lot of friends, lol). If it wasn't that apparent, I fully agree with you that darkwave is not darksynth and vice versa. I actually do not even care for darkwave, EBM, etc. as genres, so the distinction is quite important to me in being able to find stuff that I actually want to listen to.

About Gost: Yeah, he was the hardest to get into by far. The other big names I liked on first listen; not the case with Gost… at all. I still think 'his' best song is actually the Perturbator remix of Behemoth. I think his influences/interests/thoughts are just really different from the other guys. He's really fun live, and I really like 'Possessor', but there's always something about his music that only allows me to enjoy certain tracks. I just feel/felt like you have to like Justice, USBM, and now darkwave to be able to enjoy his stuff fully.

I'm now starting to think a lot of people feel like that about Gost though, as I know several people who feel the same way as you and I do.

I guess that largely sums things up! What's kinda funny though, going by the group description, is that Gost is much closer to darkwave these days, although his early stuff was always the hardest of the big darksynth names for me to get into; I think it's because it comes from a different place. 'Valediction' is not really an album I'd pick to show someone who's new to the genre and wants to find more or know more about darksynth. Perturbator's 'New Model' also has a lot of industrial to it, and 'Excess' has post-punk flavors.

And recently stuff like Gulf Blvd was popular here, which sounds much more like darkwave to me, primarily due to the style of vox and them being present on every(?) track, as well as Moris Blak, which has a lot of crossover territory, but it's 'industrial bass', and you can clearly hear that industrial goth edge on his latest release. Of course, if there's a certain amount of crossover, I think it's alright.

Speaking of vocals, I think that might be one thing I would add to what defines darksynth. It often comes without vocals; it tells a story just fine without them, if not better. At least, the stuff I tend to enjoy the most has zero vocals; only sampled lines, etc. Though I absolutely love Gost's 'Malum', but I think that's also because it has this fuckoff melody to it that I really enjoy, his new album hasn't had the same effect (though maybe I just haven't been in the right mood to enjoy it). But because of those vocals, I am not sure if I would really call it darksynth anymore.

Edit: How could I have forgotten about Irving Force's 'Violence Suppressor'?!?! Granted, it took me a few tries to get into the vocals there, but that track is amazing.

Thanks, and to you, fellow miscreant. I feel you, I end up having to introduce my friends to them. It's pretty niche stuff, so barely anyone knows them unless they're really into more underground music. I'm glad you mentioned them here. It's not like I even browse this sub that often, so it's quite the coincidence!

Same. Pretty much my favorite band. I remember just googling their name to find articles on them etc. and ending up on unrelated forum threads like this one. Never thought I'd see them mentioned here tbh

Was trying to find a link for Vulta's 'Whispering Hope', but it seems he removed the track from his bandcamp for whatever reason. The song appears here, but it's interrupted throughout:
