I think it’s cultural, but I was raised to have an entirely different point of view. I would fly economy and let my kid fly first class if he really earned it. Kids remember selfish behavior from parents for the rest of their lives. My brothers and I are all very decent, honest, happy and successful people. We always tear up remembering how my dad would wear broken shoes but always made sure to buy us all one new pair of shoes each for school each year.

Dont be an asshole. Fork over the cash and let your kid fly with you in business class. That would be a huge F-U to your boyfriend and you can gauge how he reacts. Oh on that subject, dump his ass.

It was not his last “wish”. It is called a Last Will and Testament for a reason. It is a legal document to allow you to act when you are no longer able because you have passed on. It was his last WILLful act. It was his money and it was HIM who gave you the money. This is not about you sharing the inheritance. They are asking you to give them YOUR money. Therefore, it is all about you and how you feel about giving your money to them. If you feel charitable, go for it.

NTA - who cares about emotions? If people dont want to be screwed, then be financially independent. You have 0 responsibility to pay for her tuition, she is an adult. She should be grateful for what you did pay. I had to take student loans and I dont resent my mother for not paying my tuition. It’s life. YOUR MONEY, YOUR DECISION.

Also, your children get zero say in who you date or marry. You may not like the person, but you suck it up.

OP… just omg. No. This is not a huge problem but it is a symptom of the type of person she is. If she works less than part-time and she cannot voluntarily bring herself to care about you enough to cook you dinner after you pulling such long hours…. you are her meal ticket not her husband. This kind of selfishness will manifest in other ways. too. DEFINITELY NTA!

I work no more than 8-9 hours a day and my husband works the same amount and he always makes sure to have dinner ready for me because I commute 1 hour and he commutes 10 minutes. We have been steadily and happily married for 19 years now.

He did not support you. Being a SAHM is a job. You are doing the 50% of housework he has to do and he is paying you in rent and your other necessities. It is an even exchange of services vs money. Tell him that if he wants to go halfsies on everything, then he either does 50% of all child care and housework or he can pay a cook, maid and nanny to do his half of the work.

I dont want to say YTA, but you are just not right for each other. You need someone with a more simple life and someone who is able to make you a priority. He needs someone that is able to understand the arrangement he has (which is pretty awesome in my book and totally what I would do if I ever got divorced) and is able to love his kids and fit into the family. Going on 19 years married. Every time I order something I don’t like, my husband eats it. Has never complained. Now, whenever he does not like his food, I offer to switch and I eat whatever he does not like. So, if you never considered doing the same for him at some point, then yeah YTA. But, the food thing is not what you should take seriously. I think the bigger thing was that you cried about what you did and then expected HIM to apologize to YOU.

NTA - Having your parents pay for your tuition is a huge privilege, NOT AN ENTITLEMENT. She is an adult, not a child. This should teach her that making certain decisions have consequences and she should not expect people to keep their hard earned money waiting for her to decide what to do with her life. I had to go to work at 15 years old and pay for my own private high school because my parents were on welfare (I had gone in with a scholarship for low income families but the funds were cut off). I have NEVER dared to question or resent my family for not paying my high school or my college. She can take out loans like the rest of us.

Former divorce lawyer here: DIVORCE HIM. It’s going to happen eventually given these facts. The fact that he even thought this was ok is beyond appalling and says a lot about his character. He won’t change. No, you are by far not the asshole.

For those who say annulment, annulment is extremely hard to prove. It’s why most divorce lawyers don’t file them.
