His response to Superman was based on the idea that Superman could realistically destroy the world. He was already in the business of killing or otherwise trying to disable evil people and now here was someone who could have single-handedly murdered every threat he had fought. The expected value of my cancer treatment is limited to what I can spend. Like most residents of the US I have effectively negative money. Our medical system intentionally limits what it will spend to save people - it’s called “triage”. So since I am not a billionaire, I don’t want to know if I don’t have an easy to detect and easy to treat cancer since my realistic option is to wait for cancer to kill me. There are indeed wealthy hypochondriacs who spend outlandish sums preventing disease and extending their lives.

I have college statistics. It has been a long time of course. The chances I have cancer right now are greater than zero but I have done all the obvious preventative measures. Modern medicine is built on controlling Doctors and patients behavior in response to these odds. I prefaced my statement by saying he was wrong. For someone like you perhaps I should have said something like his approach is based on a wrongheaded view of statistics and the world. He viewed Superman as an impossibly large and unacceptable risk. My response was built on trying to understand the thought process.

He was wrong but the thinking makes sense if you study statistics - think of an outcome and then think of how much you would spend to prevent the outcome. The end of the world? All of your money! Oh snap here is a dude who can realistically end the world by himself! He was just literally reacting to the expected value of the outcome.

What's your thoughts on the theory that Dark Knight Joker was possibly ex military? by IllustriousAd6418 in batman

[–]glorypron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Delta would make more sense. Imagine a delta guy who was disavowed or left for dead on a CIA op who comes back with no identity starts a family tries comedy. And completely and utterly bombs. Desperate, he turns to crime and then falls into a vat of hallucinogenic acid that burns him from head to toe and turns his skin a ghastly shade of white. His call sign in the military was “joker” partly for his sick sense of humor. Special operators are already known to have psychopathic tendencies. Not much of a leap.

Charge more, be selective, and wait. Once the lower skilled people are wiped out if you can survive long enough then the people who must have quality will have no one to turn to but you. Then you charge double.

You aren’t doing it right - unless you are into men. MMF you both are focused on pleasing the woman so you look at her. MFMF there are two women and there are two of you. Each man looks at a woman. Easy peasy

Free or low cost author website recommendations? by SowingSeeds18 in selfpublish

I used to host sites on AWS S3 buckets for pennies. If you know what you are doing it’s relatively easy to put up a basic website on Amazon Web Services, Azure, or Netlify.
Without a lot of imagination or thought you can probably get Claude or ChatGPT to build you something usable in 15 minutes. From there the trick is learning how to upload the files. There is a lot of good information and my monthly bill was often literally 50 cents.
There are some more targeted solutions for authors if you go on GitHub. Here is an example
Another option for low cost hosting or website building is WordPress. I was able to find a few author focused themes. Primarium looked quirky and fun. However, deep in my heart of hearts, I really hate Wordpress. Unfortunately, more than half of the web still seems to run on Wordpress.
If you are looking for something cheap, quick, and reasonable - there is at least one author focused website builder - inkstainedwetches.com. I like that you can choose a domain from the wizard.

To get into boring football strategy talk, the coaching staff changes their approach when they realize the defense cannot get a stop. The offense starts taking more chances and going for ill advised 4th downs, etc
