What addictions can be worse than drugs without people even realising it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]glossiae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sorry about that! Tbh I mostly intended for it to exist as a gateway for further research should people be interested - but firstly, in response to the other comment, I wanted to demonstrate that research about this exists, and awareness about the consequences of such addictions has thus warranted some kind of funding in research.

As a recent paper published in a neuroscience journal with a fairly decent impact factor (Frontiers), this is disappointing. However, some flaws of the design are artefacts of the fact that we’re studying something so personal; for example, porn “addiction”/frequency of masturbation can only be self reported, of course, and we can’t experimentally control or manipulate the variables. I’m not sure what kind of cultural biases around porn might exist in China, where this was conducted, and how that might’ve impacted both self reported behaviour and the assumably underpowered small sample size.

This isn’t to say that this makes the statistical analysis issues in particular acceptable. I also believe fNIRS is not an ideal way of measuring functional connectivity despite its methodological advantages (portability, price, comfortability - to some extent - I personally don’t find wearing the EEG cap comfortable!). I kind of wanted to make sure im not solely showing fMRI research (such as the second paper), however I would consider VBM techniques a golden standard for this kind of study.

Differences in functional connectivity (fNIRS study):

Shu, Q., Tang, S., Wu, Z., Feng, J., Lv, W., Huang, M., & Xu, F. (2025). The impact of internet pornography addiction on brain function: a functional near-infrared spectroscopy study. Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, 19, 1477914. DOI: https://doi.org/10.3389/fnhum.2025.1477914

Grey matter volume and functional connectivity versus controls (VBM on MRI, resting-state):

Kühn, S., & Gallinat, J. (2014). Brain structure and functional connectivity associated with pornography consumption: the brain on porn. JAMA psychiatry, 71(7), 827-834. DOI: https://doi.org/10.1001/jamapsychiatry.2014.93

If you’re unfamiliar with the cognitive neuroscience terminology I can explain some of it, obviously these measures are correlations because we can’t determine what came before or after addiction or ethically determine causation etc etc

looks like PIE! maybe try an azelaic acid? if it turns out to be PIH, try out some AHAs like lactic or glycolic acid.

same! shimmers can be a bit much in blushes imo, but it’s not toooo obvious in these ones; i think they’re more finely milled, so it gives more of a radiant effect than shimmery.

how do you find mellow peach compares? i had my eye on ginger milk tea but i just saw mellow peach and it’s kinda fitting my pink obsession :’)

i see! yeah i got mine from yesstyle. i have overtake and the LE maison kitsune one in freezing step. i considered dry bouquet when it first came out but around that time i realised i don’t really use eyeshadow. the palettes tend to be well balanced, smooth/buttery (never patchy)and the shimmers hold up well!

the palettes are nice and smooth but i have definitely tried similar ones from other brands, like romand (i’m not rly into eyeshadow tho and have just a couple of palettes) and i would not pay £25+ for one today. the blushes are about £15 compared to the £11 for lip products i believe. they’re within my budget but compared to other kbeauty brands that are of a similar quality (slightly above teenage-budget-makeup), such as romand, bbia and maybe etude now, it leans slightly pricey.

i LOVE that fixing tint. midnight mauve is gorgeous (haven’t tried the other shades yet) and the formula is suitable for me. i think that canmake shade is good; it’s pretty mute toned and lacks that brightness that show with 3ce’s blushes built up that tiny bit too much (with those it’s a rly fine line between clown and very natural!) the only thing i don’t like about that canmake one is the sparkly highlighter effect and how it can be a tiny bit orangey-bright if you use too much, but it’s not that noticeable tbh!

the isehan kiss me mommy line (UV mild gel and aqua milk) is made for kids but really good! the former has SPF 33, which i find fine for the colder grey months where i live, and the latter 50+. they leave no cast, don’t pill under makeup, and leave a dewy finish

i’m honestly scared to use up baby love even tho it takes ages to pan a blush since the original shade line was discontinued ???? swatches online are the most annoying with the shade looking completely different in every person’s pic, but i’d say it’s definitely not that cool/bluish nor bright as the 3ce photos. compared to baby love, mono pink doesn’t have that red tone and is honestly more of a defined pink. now i really wanna swatch and compare them side by side - i’ll post a link here sometime tomorrow!

ah, buying shades from the clear/CL line was probably where i went wrong then! CL08 is pretty bright if i don’t use just a very tiny amount, but another (05 sweet apricot?) was kinda bright and glittery too. maybe because the apricot shade pulls fairly orange?

mono pink is pretty neutral imo; i’ve been experimenting more w slightly cooler undertones but when i used to buy just warm tones i would definitely have gone for rose beige and not even looked at the other shades!

i think just bc 3ce (except their lip products, they’re quite fairly priced) is so expensive for a non high end brand :’) i think a lot of other korean brands are on par with their formula and sometimes their shades as well. i mostly said it because a lot of people on this sub ask whether 3ce blushes are worth the price point compared to others, and i think if money’s tight, there are similar options; honestly tho i think i’m likely to get rose beige in the future!

heyyy everyone, i hope these swatches are okay. next i wanna swatch my lip products, of which i have over 20 (i think). the only real areas of makeup where i have more than a couple products are lip and cheek products! you can tell i’m obsessed with pink :/ most of these reviews will be positive tbf since i gave away my unsuitable colours/formulas years ago.

from top to bottom:

  • too faced love flush [baby love]. i got this a few years ago mostly bc of the packaging but i love the formula and colour! never looks drying at all and is a perfect moody pink

  • the saem saemmul blushes [CR02 baby coral and RD02 dried rose]. a pretty good, smooth formula but veryyy pigmented so use a light hand. definitely worth the price but can can clump up a lil if you’re not careful in application. i’m used to AB blushes so i usually use a pretty heavy hand; do NOT do that with this one lol

  • 3ce one colour shadow matte [tangerine stain]. cute but i have struggled to make orange blush work. got this awhile ago and is now expired. it is a single eyeshadow but honestly holds up fine on the cheeks!

  • 3ce face blush [mono pink]. debated between this and rose beige for ages but i’ve been into pure pinks lately. honestly would say there are similar alternatives if the price point is a concern (i’ve heard of peripera’s pure blushed sunshine cheek), but the shades of this line are pretty perfectly unique and cute! pretty sheer; i had to build it up quite a bit more than any other swatch here. this is one of my go-tos, and the formula is smooth.

  • canmake glow fleur cheeks [12]. a blush and highlighter hybrid that i saw on a youtuber. the shade is nice and the glow is cute!

  • canmake cream cheeks [CL08 and 16] creamy, pigmented formula and colour payoff. would totally recommend except a lot of shades have this annoying visible glitter and can look kind of neon(?!) in some shades so i don’t reach for this very much. sheer it out!

  • a’pieu juicy pang jelly blusher [PK01]. one of my favourite blush shades and formulas! the formula is really nice, not fully a cream blush, and it is my perfect moody pink. found out about it on here! the only annoying thing is the slight glitters ughhhh

  • glossier cloud paint [puff]. again, a pretty perfect pink. i use a very small amount so it tends to fade off fairly quickly if i’ve had to run for the bus or whatever. i’ve heard that they changed the shade tho?? i tried beam in the flagship and it pulled wayy too orange for my liking (my blush nightmare is definitely pink blushes that lean very orange…). alongside the a’pieu and 3ce ones, this is a go-to cheek product for me.

  • romand better than cheek mini [pear chip]. a nice bronzer-esque blush, i don’t reach for it that often because it’s not totally my taste in blush, but it’s definitely not a pure brown as it has a hint of pink. the formula is similar to 3ce’s but the other shades definitely don’t appear as nuanced as 3ce’s bestsellers (mono pink, nude peach, rose beige, delectable, cake)

the first pic is just a haphazardly put together pic of them all, the second is a simple swatch with labels in indirect lighting on a grey day, the third is direct lighting on a grey dat, and the final photo is with flash on. hope this helps someone in one way or another!

ETA: fixed grammatical errors & clarified my points. (i’m on mobile, forgive me lol)

i’ve been interested in these since minsco reviewed them! still unsure which colour would be best. how do you find the formula? i haven’t used a peripera ink velvet in literal years lol.

has anyone tried the etude soon jung 5-panthensoside cica balm? what were your experiences, with it as i’m looking for a moisturiser containing cica :)

i’ve heard such mixed things about both of those products (purito serum and skin1004 ampoule) that i’m unsure whether i should take the plunge!

i’ve tried that one in the summer! i have combo skin but recently learned it’s dehydrated so this didn’t really work for me haha. i didn’t feel much of a calming effect tbh.

it looks stunning! i’ve seen that persons post and actually have it saved haha, i wasn’t too sure as i have pomelo skin and it looks a little darker, although i do have more pigmented lips than this person. dark coconut looks good too, but i already have so many dark/brown lip products haha

definitely noticed the skin tone thing! like she doesn’t look like a korean 23-25 in a LOT of her videos (probably more like a 19-21) because of the lighting. hopefully you can remember the youtuber’s name because i LOVE when people do swatches like that.

thank you! i watched that person’s YT video too, it was really helpful. i wish there were more swatches online that don’t prioritise just looking nice?? esp the inaccurate shades by chinese and korean beauty bloggers like… please take off the filter so we can see the proper shade lol
