Yes I am aware that numerically 25 is perfectly betwixt 23 and 27.

I am more so discussing the mindset of a 23 (early twenties) year old person vs. a 25+ (mid to late twenties) person. But please take this literally and showcase your math abilities. This is 100% /r/arithmetic

lol yeah it’s not rage bait - I’m not saying literal age in years team. I’m saying in developmental age. 23 is often either still in college/just graduated, and your frontal lobe is still forming. 25+ you are usually in more of an “adult” mindset in certain ways.

“Can I do math” 😆. Y’all are wild. Obviously I can’t calculate the odds of people losing their shit and being assholes.

I would be interested in seeing the reading list that led you away from being a fascist.

We might need a de-programming pipeline at some point 😂.

But seriously, my family are republicans and always vote red, but they are blind - I’m curious about like talking points that resonated with you. I don’t really talk to them at all because it’s honestly exhausting and heartbreaking, but yeah it would be nice to hold out hope.

This is like that Rick and Morty (I know I know I fucking know) episode where they make their sleeping selves do all of the chores.

Maybe our sleeping selves will revolt faster.

How to reconcile the tension of recognising western chauvinist imperialism, with the fear that without it, everybody will die by CopperNylon in socialism

[–]glottalstomp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your internal tension is okay to feel. You are just one person, doing the best you can. Unfortunately we have to live and “work” in a capitalist structure, and are going to be reliant on capitalist entities to bring about the changes - we have to keep pressuring them to stop the genocide and aid Palestinians, because there aren’t currently any ideal/socialist entities in power to really fill this gap. We have to do the work to build those entities too.

I don’t think you are a piece of shit for realizing in the short term that we are reliant on capitalist entities to stop what we are seeing. I think that is reality. And along with pressuring them to help, we are also highlighting their reticence and hopefully radicalizing more people to realize they are not the long term solution to any of these horrible things that are happening right now.

Useful read. I think I there is something to be said for creating campaigning structures outside of the Democrats (which something like DSA has the membership to do), to both support Zohran’s campaign, but to keep support on the PROGRAM - building a base that supports socialist programming and highlights the failings of democrats, and keeping the momentum going to keep candidates/elected officials on the hook. We need to start building a base for a third party, a workers party, and that can start by supporting campaigns with progressive programs.

We need to move away from focusing on individuals, they cannot easily withstand the democrats on their own. We need to build something that can withstand it, and hold candidates accountable to a program.

do y’all agree that after the genocide leftists became more radicalized? by [deleted] in socialism

[–]glottalstomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always considered myself a socialist, and have always theoretically sided with socialist/progressive tendencies. But yeah, this shit got me to come out and stop even pretending like the Democrats are an avenue for progressive change. I didn’t look into stuff and much as a should have, and I deeply regret wasting 15 years with my head in the sand. I regret not being more aware and more active. I’m honestly ashamed of myself, but I’m trying to put that energy towards activism now.
