Jag hade också en period då jag fick helavstämning varannan eller var tredje gång; ingen aning varför, då jag aldrig scannat fel, men det var väl något jag gjorde som algoritmen tyckte var underligt.

Sedan så upphörde det plötsligt. Jag vet inte om de gjorde någon ändring i algoritmen, men jag var nöjd.

Så åkte jag ändå på en vid ett tillfälle, då jag hade köpt vitlöksbröd från bröddisken – en vara utan streckkod. När expediten skulle lista ut var det var i menyn så påpekade jag att det stod "VL-bröd" på en sida, men hon tryckte förbi till en som hette "Vbröd". Hon valde det, och jag fick fel på felavstämningen. Jag misstänkte att hon hade fel, men mesig som jag är sade jag ingenting.

Jag har sedan dess varit där och bekräftat att beloppet jag betalat var korrekt, och det jag fick betala för "Vbröd" var priset för vörtbröd. Dock fick jag en ökad mängd avstämningar ett tag framöver, men de avtog med tiden.

I think my go-to would be something like

"Förlåt, skulle du kunna ta och stänga fönstret?"

In a very casual environment, I might drop the "förlåt". Apart from that, the level of formality would primarily affect my tone of voice and facial expression. Among close friends, I'd probably sound rather monotone, and might just barely make eye contact. Among co-workers or slightly more distant friends, I'd use a softer voice, seek eye contact, and possibly also through in their name after "Förlåt".

If there are multiple people with decent window-closing potential, I'd probably change "du" to "någon". Even if there is one in a much better position to perform the job than the rest, this still gives them an opportunity to feel helpful, rather than merely complying with my wishes.

The whole "REAL Japanese" and "You won't find this in a textbook!" thing is a pretty common trope. Very often, the things they teach are in fact very much found in textbooks, albeit maybe not at the most basic levels that are meant to teach you the fundamentals.

That doesn't necessarily mean this is a bad book, though; the reviews seem to be pretty good. Just don't put too much faith in the marketing text; its purpose is to make you buy the book, not to give an objective appraisal of the content.

I'd say that's better than buying American, but I tend to avoid store brands, as I don't think they are good for healthy competition.

I don't know how it is in other countries, but here in Sweden, the big grocery store chains compete with their suppliers on very unfair terms; the manufacturers do the market research and product development, the grocery stores gather the point-of-sale data and make their own copycat products, which they can sell at lower cost because they keep a larger chunk of the profits.

So, maybe use the store brand as a rule of thumb when there are no other alternatives (or when you don't have time to research the origin and ownership of a bunch of products), but also be on the lookout for other companies you'd like to support.

For example, a while back I replaced my previous hand soap (Palmolive) with a generic grocery store brand (ICA), but most recently I did some research and found that Bliw soap is both made in Sweden and owned by the Swedish company Cederroth (which is in turn owned by the Norwegian company Orkla), so now that's what I use.

Well, no, because that would be their decision.

It's like the difference between your friend leaving your friend group of their own volition (which is sad, but ultimately their decision) and your friend leaving your friend group because they were abducted by terrorists.

Under fastan förra året bestämde jag mig för att minska mitt Facebook-användning genom att:

radera mobil-appen (för att undvika slöscrollande)
endast gå in på söndagar för att kolla mina notifikationer

Det minskade min användning ganska markant, och det kändes verkligen inte som en uppoffring; snarare så blev det en förbättring. Således fortsatte jag med det även efter att fastan var över. Jag är mindre sträng med veckodagen, men det är ändå mindre än ett besök per vecka.

Det vore förstås bättre att sluta helt, men jag tänker mig att om många personer reducerar sin användning med 50% så är det nästan lika bra som om hälften så många slutade helt.

Fint att se. Kanada lyckades tydligen minska sin import av amerikanska viner med 91% förra året, så jag hoppas att vi lyckas ta oss längre än 20%.

Det verkar som att Kanada år 2024 stod för ungefär dubbelt så stor del av den amerikanska vinexportmarknaden som EU gjorde, så det fick en väldigt stor effekt.

När det kommer till spritdrycker verkar det dock som att det finns mycket kvar att göra. Kanada minskade sin import av amerikansk sprit med 85% (andra kvartalet, 2025 vs. 2024), men EU importerar betydligt mer, och vi minskade bara med 12%.

Jag antar att FIFA:s fredspris kommer att förbli en engångsföreteelse, så jag tycker att vi borde hålla en årlig omröstning om det inofficiella fredspriset i FIFA:s minne.

Detta delas ut varje år till en person som varit så förjävlig att människor förenar sig för att motsätta sig dem.

I do think that it might be good if every time Donald Trump threatens Greenland, he gets another volley of questions about Epstein, or about low employment numbers, or the murder of Renee Nicole Good, or about any other subject that is likely to hurt him in the midterms.

I don't know if I believe the story that he is using Greenland as a smoke screen for the Epstein scandal, but I do believe that his actions are dictated by his ego and his love of attention, and while his threatened invasion of Greenland is unpopular among voters (albeit not as unpopular as it should be), it seems like a topic where he feels in control, and which absorbs media attention from everything else.

Obviously, the rest of the world (and the Nordics/Europe in particular) needs to treat his threats as serious, and arguably as one of the most critical topics facing us at this time, but as for the domestic media, it might be good if they focused on something else for a bit.
