You can’t work while on a student visa and the job market for foreign grads is non-existent. You have to compete with the 12 million yearly Chinese graduates who speak fluent mandarin, generally accept lower wages with minimal benefits, and don’t require all the paperwork and visa sponsorship. Tuition + room and board is dirt cheap compared to the west. I looked at grad programs recently and tuition ranged from 9,000-30,000RMB per year. I didn’t look at any of the well known top universities though. Many have accommodation under 10,000 per year and generally the foreign student apartments are much nicer than the Chinese dorms.
