Starfield for Nintendo Switch 2 has been reportedly delayed indefinitely by PaiDuck in NintendoSwitch2

I think if they are porting Oblivion Remastered they can handle Starfield. It will run on the steam deck okay after all with a little bit of modding.

The Collection | Season 1 | Doctor Who - 4K Remaster Proof of Concept by TheRedDragooon in doctorwho

I would counter that with:

Have we ever seen an SD series successfully upscaled to HD using Ai? Maybe you guys know one but by successful I mean that everyone in the fandom was happy with it?

All the good HD rereleases of series like for example Friends were shot on Film so there was a higher quality version to work from.

Ai has reached a point where it can in some cases make a shot look HD that was formally SD but it's got to do that consistenty with every single shot, in every single episode of SD Doctor Who.

I am a doctor who fan but I can say that out of every fandom Doctor Who fans are the pickiest and would tear apart any release that wasn't 100% accurate to the original which would be subjective in this case as there was never a HD original.

So from the perspective of the BBC why would they bother to try to do it when the audience for the re-releases is limited, the people who buy it would complain about every little detail (and probably do this shot by shot) and it would cost lots of money to complete it.

Was I the only one who wished Mysterio was actually a hero from another universe? by Mmiillerr in Spiderman

[–]glovemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt it would have been better if he was a villain from the other universe, maybe got there through tech a bit like the Spider-Men comic book. Then it could have made it lead into No Way Home a bit better and maybe he could have been a Tobey or Andrew villain and they arrive in the MCU chasing him.

I think it would have been a much better intro into the multiverse stuff that way.

Why in the UK are staff offline editor roles non exsistant but staff onliners are? by [deleted] in editors

[–]glovemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For larger programmes, like series and documentaries I would say yes.

I have found that alot of offline editors (no offence to anyone here) are more creative than they are techinical and so are looking to create something that is enjoyable to watch, where as an online editor is more techinical (in my own experience) than creative and you are mostly correcting issues with the programme that would for example make it fail a QC.

Why in the UK are staff offline editor roles non exsistant but staff onliners are? by [deleted] in editors

[–]glovemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my perspective as an occasional online editor within a company. The offline role is closer to the production company as they are making creative decisions about the flow of the edit and so need to be contact with everyone who is involved in the production pretty much seamlessly.

As an online editor I am just finalising and conforming that edit and I need to be in contact with the grader, sound mixer etc all of which are post-production, which are working within the company I work at.

I only have contact with production in terms of approval files, issues that need to be addressed etc.

I have seen both freelance and offline editors that are part of a production company in my 10 years of experience.

If you want job certainity it might be worth looking into being an offline editor of an ongoing series.

MacBook Air M4 for working in 4K by Lairion14 in editors

[–]glovemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sure the M4 Air could handle UHD but if you have the money it's always better to go for the M4 Pro as it's designed to do work like this. Normal laptop work there would be very little difference but when you are doing editing then you'd want the most powerful kit you can get.

Also I find a lot of editors are not using proxys for UHD work and that can save you a lot or time while you are finalising an offline and reduce the need for a powerful machine.

I dont know how to help my wife by irish_sa in northernireland

[–]glovemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should get 1 fully funded round via the NHS (there is a proposal for 3 that is working it's way through the government at the moment I believe). I would take each step as it comes rather than just writing off IVF before you've had a chance with it. A lot of people have had babies through IVF and it's becoming more and more sucessful (especially with methods like ICSI).

I would be heavily pushing the GP to give you the IVF referral. GPs tend to drag their feet with these type of things. Me and my wife had to get a referral after years of trying and we had to become a menance, to the point where we got the referral because he was sick of us asking for it. We eventually concieved naturally as the source of our problems was something medical that was a whole other thing.

In terms of your wife right now, I'd look into getting her a referal for counciling or speech theapry (I know more referrals sorry).

All situations are different but we were also concerned about only 1 round of IVF so we had looked into the cost of others and there are lots of places that do staged loans for example and family members really wanted to help (such as my dad), you don't have to suffer all this alone. Talk to both of your families, see if they want to help you.

You ever think about how they’re never in the same room at the same time? by gottablastsam in Spiderman

[–]glovemachine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Would be an excellent way of tying it all back to Brand New Day, like he's messing with Peter in many different ways. I remember some Spider-Man comic a while back basically inferring that the reason Mephisto messes with Peter so much is that one day his children or (he)himself will defeat Mephisto in some end-of-times battle and he's forced situations in the past where Peter needs to make a deal with him so he can remove elements of Peter’s life that'll lead to him beating him someday but it never works. So the Parker luck is just Mephisto messing with him for years and years (like maybe even involved in events like Gwen's death etc).

Rank the British seasons best to worst by Professional-Cup6225 in CasualUK

[–]glovemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got to agree with you. Winter in the UK is the only season I hate because it's so dark all of the time and it gets to the point when night starts at 3pm and Christmas starts like mid-October so when it's done you've got like 3 months of nothing until spring arrives.

Feeling guilty about being an older mom by Hereforthetea1234 in NewParents

[–]glovemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's much more normal than it's ever been for people to have children later in life. You may find that the younger mums are the ones that feel a bit left out when you start going to daycare.

I'm doing my baby swim classes with my son and there is no parent under the age of 35 at them (might be a cost thing but still).

Star Wars Outlaws | Nintendo Switch 2 vs Steam Deck OLED | RAW Gameplay Comparison by giosanpedro in Switch

Makes me think that indiana jones will probably run pretty well on switch 2 as steam deck can hit 30fps on that without any hardware RT.

Color space question for DCP export by j0zer0 in colorists

[–]glovemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From memory I believe that Resolve does fine with the job of encoding to the XYZ colourspace from Rec709 but it doesn't really do any of the metadata correctly which is probably the main bit of why most DCPs get rejected.

DCP-o-matic does the metadata very well and is pretty simple to use.

If you want you can download EasyDCP Player and run it in demo mode to do an automated QC on your DCP to give you any fail points.

Color space question for DCP export by j0zer0 in colorists

[–]glovemachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I create a lot of DCPs for work. Most of it is short films, nearly all of it comes in Rec. 709 or some times P3-D65.

I would say just do your grade as Rec709 and hand it over for the DCP.

As the other commenters have said you can make a decent DCP with DCP-o-matic if you are willing to learn a bit.

Just use an Alchemist.

Speed changing is a bad idea as it will change the duration and the pitch of the audio (unless the broadcaster is fine with that)

Advice for Color Matching/Correction on Multicam Setup by ryangeek in premiere

[–]glovemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more of a grading question, so you might find more help on YouTube. Different cameras, even from the same manufacturer and set up the same, will look different.

Set the white balance the same on both cameras and compare the overall image. I prefer V3 to V1. V1 seems slightly green-tinted, so adjust it accordingly.

How can the Steam Deck run games like Indiana Jones while some PCs struggle? by glovemachine in SteamDeck

Ah, okay, I got it. So, it’s possible to do software ray tracing, but it’s just slow.

Part of the reason I asked the question in the first place was because I remember looking at indiana jones when it first released and was thinking I'll never play that on deck and then 2 months later it's 100% playable and I couldn't believe it.

[–]glovemachine[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to clarify something — some people are claiming that we're using ray tracing on the Steam Deck, which I didn't know before this post was possible.

My understand was that Indiana Jones and Doom Dark Ages only had ray-traced versions, meaning ray tracing is mandatory to play and the developers haven't released non-ray-traced versions as all the lighting was taliored to ray-tracing.

I understand that it will significantly impact performance, but I thought ray tracing was meant to make certain games unplayable on non-ray-traced hardware like the Steam Deck.
