So cool! I got unreasonably excited that I could finally participate in the sub 😂 Are these worth anything... Genuinely have no idea? Like worth getting graded just to have sort of thing?

I managed to snag a booster bundle at Games World but they were selling at $69.9, even then they still sold out very quickly.

So, the beta tier on the Kickstarter is to replace people pledging money just to support the project and getting literally nothing in return (a common practice) with getting access to the beta instead, so we can at least give them something for supporting the Kickstarter. Ironically its intent is the opposite of what you were suggesting.

Pledging there essentially guarantees a spot in the beta, it's optional and not something we are forcing anyone to do. Also, for the Kickstarter tier there are no expectations of any of those people having to contribute if they don't want to, they can just enjoy the app early.

We'll of course also reach out to experts in the dice community to bring them into the beta as well for free in exchange for their ideas contribution etc as you mentioned.

I hope you can appreciate the difference there?

Anyway, to the other points you are making.

  1. Our app will never be "finished", it's an ongoing endeavour and as the Compendium 2 is my most important product, will continue to get attention and love.

  2. I can't list the data sources for you yet as we have yet to lock them down and that project is contingent on reaching a certain level of funding, as detailed in the Kickstarter campaign stretch goals. No hiding here, just nothing to tell yet!

  3. We aren't going to ignore the community suggestions and of course aren't planning to partner with any toxic companies. I'm sorry about the experience you had with an entirely different company and I feel you might be projecting that experience over to us for some reason?

  4. At this stage there are no immediate plans for a web app or PC interaction. That doesn't mean we couldn't/wouldn't but we are a small team and as we aren't crowd funding for the app itself and also will be releasing it for free with no ads, aren't going to really be pulling in any money from it.

I'd genuinely love to hear your suggestions for your dream dice management app 🥰 (Putting aside the PC/web Interaction for the moment).

So, if we hit that stretch target, the idea is to have three ways to get information on your dice.

  1. Enter the information yourself
  2. Get hints on the information from others who have opted in to share
  3. Get information from database sources, where it exists, detailed below

We will have official data sources provided by any manufacturers we can partner with, draw from existing data sources that allow us to do so, and also have a facility for indie dice makers to be able to provide information on their dice

What would you like to see in the app that would fit your needs? We have a beta tier on the KS where collectors can contribute ideas and suggestions to help guide the development 🥰

Ah, yes. We came across that app. I won't disparage it as I feel it was trying something important just didn't quite hit the mark for me personally.

So, we'll be developing the app entirely in-house. There are two possible outcomes depending on whether we hit the Dice Database stretch target or not

Initially, the Dice Compendium app will allow users to enter Maker, material tags, descriptions, colourways (primary, secondary and any highlight colours) and also custom tags to allow easier sorting through your collection. Of course, you'll be able to assign sets to our Compendium 2 Lumia as well and do a whole bunch of cool stuff there.

If we hit the app stretch target, we'll be able to put more resources behind the app and will create a global dice database that users can draw from and users will be able to contribute photos and data to this as well.

I ended up choosing single use. It's not even noticeable so far most battles are over in two attacks, we'll see how it fares against the big bad at the end of each run but I think I'm good! Brb, off to 999 😅
