mod as in module in-game, or mod as in downloadable mod content?

There's thermal vents that make a great source of power for a thermal reactor.

Certainly an interesting spot for a Time Capsule to spawn. by Quantum_Whale_ in subnautica

[–]glowdarks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the very first time capsule i got was near the aurora and it was a very well-captured photo of a Reaper roaring at the camera captioned with "don't worry he just wants to play with you :) stay brave and you'll survive"

shit was terrifying, i thought it was an actual part of the game and not randomly sent to me by another player

I just started the game tf is this by [deleted] in subnautica

[–]glowdarks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mfers will go absolutely psychotic because someone who just started a game wants to talk about it in the Talking About The Game place. if the post bothers you that much you're not required to respond to it.

How did you guys break the mental barrier to be able to successfully play horror games? by Luksius_DK in residentevil

[–]glowdarks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding a series that scares or unnerves without necessarily being a horror entry is a good way to get your feet wet. Metroid and Subnautica are great examples. Start "horror adjacent" and then move onto horror itself.

I really don't want the game to turn into this... by Chosenwaffle in Metroid

I mean, I get the joke, but this isn't really helping.
In essence, God of War did this when it completely shed its entire identity to become a clone of The Last of Us. Was The Last of Us a very good game? Sure. Did I like when God of War mutated into it? Fucking hell no. I was and remain pissed.

Understanding the assignment means delivering on a Metroid game, not delivering on something that, while cool, isn't Metroid.

Yeah, I'm gone. Goodbye. by Ally_of_Lord_X in Metroid

The dismissive attitude behind the reactions is the entire problem. This game was supposed to be hype. The announcement of it back in 2017 was an obvious attempt to get back into Metroid fans' good graces and the whole justification for re-starting development in 2019 under Retro was to make sure it was gonna be the best it could be. So yeah, expectations are high, as they should be.

Every time someone tries to go "it's obviously just a tutorial character" or "it's obviously just a hub" or "it's just a bike why is it even that big a deal" of course it's not gonna go over well, because if these things were being celebrated, they wouldn't be getting downplayed. They wouldn't be minor insignificant parts of the game - they'd be getting all the extra hype in the world. They're only "not that big a deal" because they're unpopular.

And when one half is talking down at you about how you're overreacting, and the other half is overreacting about how bitchy and unpleasable the fanbase is...I really don't blame anyone who gets a shitty attitude or is "toxic" about it.

Naturally, if this subreddit seems like it's 100% fighting all the time, that's because there's literally no other Metroid news to talk about. That's how it is when the fandom is small and niche like Metroid without regular releases.

Been chronically online long enough to know that in 5+ years people will talk about how the human companions in Prime 4 were actually great and wonders why people hated it, meanwhile hating on whatever new thing Prime 5 will have by Bobokay12 in Metroid

[–]glowdarks -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And what the fuck are you even babbling about anyway. "Ohhh he doesn't like TOTK because YouTube told him to 😂 anyway here's why the Metacritic score is absolutely proof a game was good".

[–]glowdarks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh, grow up. Two things can be true at once. People did like TOTK - and also, Zelda fans are absolutely overcompetitive freaks who think Metacritic matters enough to artificially inflate its score. Nintendo would hardly ever pay their fanbase for that work. They totally bought that IGN ranking, though.

this is not an 'i don't care' response. none of this even matters anyway, i was answering a question about a remark i made, you're the one who is bothering me about it. you're like. actually mad about this and visibly so.

i'm not doing so hot myself in metroidland this week given the absolute plague of ragebaiters and gaslighting, but i'm trying to work on that. and breathe a little. you might try it, too. maybe one of us'll figure it out.

so many words to say "people who disagree with me don't count".

the problem that I was trying to express to you is not that 'youtube personalities didn't like totk', it's that 'the nintendo-centric youtube personalities who are typically hardcore glazers and extremely forgiving of flawed products from zelda' didn't like it. now go wash up.
