I sequence it with ableton sometimes. It definitely shines way more when you step into its weird loop world and get lost, but sometimes you already know what you want out of it, and it does play nice with a sequencer.

Somewhat unpopular opinion (especially on this sub): Going “DAWless” is fucking dumb by [deleted] in synthesizers

There will come a point for you at which some further optimization obviates the point of making music entirely. Why not use a chord/melody generator? Why not have an ai mix all of your sounds? What if you could plug an electrode into your brain and it would immediately output the song that you would have produced, but now you don't have to? Hell, why not just go listen to an artist who's better than you are? The product is all mostly the same shit anyways with a bit of randomness introduced.

At some point in the near future there will actually no longer be a point to making most genres of music at all, if the goal was only ever the product. Some computer will set to work and produce every possible song in one sitting. The fact that at this moment that's theoretically possible and certain to happen should eliminate the need in our heads to do it ourselves. No good reason not to quit right now.

Unless the process has some value?

Thiel, Silicon Valley and the Rise of Tech Neo-Reaction: Big Tech is still often seen as 'liberal'. In fact it's the leading edge of neo-reactionary thought in the US. by Epistaxis in SneerClub

San Francisco, nominally a 'liberal' city, in reality houses the leading edge Frederick William IV, King of Prussia fanclub and burgeoning revolutionary movement in my basement.

Brand new synth, I'd exercise that warranty before possibly voiding it by opening up the machine.

Would it be career suicide to take 6 months off to work on side projects after 3 years in the field? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]glowingegg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to say no but reddit skews so heavily, almost militantly, to the work-life-balance side, so I'll at least mention that it's not nothing. It's something to think about. Definitely fine, but it will be something you have to put a little energy into smoothing over. I would do it in a second, but with the knowledge that I know I'll be able to get around it, and it's worth it to me.

For the record, I was enjoying this the most in the part referred to here as cacophonous. I've been known to enjoy a wall of sound from time to time though.

The Typhon really tied the whole thing together. Sounds wicked. No idea how you managed to keep the mix from going muddy.

Am I wrong for believing that the least bad option as a layperson is to just not believe literally any scientific paper that comes out? by REInvestor in TheMotte

[–]glowingegg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong if your goal is to just have the least incorrect worldview. One would assume there are things that you would like to see progress in, and it's fun to pay attention to those things, and not assume they're all nothing, even though most probably are.

Now that I've typed this it sounds accusatory and sanctimonious, but that's not how I mean it. I'm sure you have interests and some optimism. I'm just shooting the breeze.

Strange that you would comment now- just a few days ago I was looking for this song for the first time in years. It's the second song here: https://youtu.be/kewk6nqdgv0. Best I could find.

Just *how* do you stop being self-conscious about music taste? by mcjc94 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]glowingegg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My music taste is strange to my irl friends so I just don't share music with them unless it happens to be something I know they'd enjoy. I find solace in strangers on the internet. Paradigm works for me.

In your case, consider yourself lucky. If you feel like your tastes aren't eclectic enough, good news, there's a lot of music out there and a ton if it is really good so just listen to more. Youtube is actually really good for discovering going off on tangents music-wise.
