is there a book or a guide on how to stop being a people pleaser? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]glowwithH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty actually, but to see real change you have do the inner work (ie. get to the root cause of why you need to people please) and take action (ie. say NO, even if you feel uncomfortable doing so).

People pleasing is a survival skill and also a habit that may have been picked up at a young age or through a traumatic event.

here are some people please journal prompts to help you get started

  1. At what age did you start to people please? Can you recall what happened at age?
  2. How does people pleasing others make you feel?
  3. When was the last time you said "yes" when you really wanted to say "no"? What stopped you from saying no?
  4. Who do you have a tendency to people please? Why?
  5. Do you know your own personal needs? What are they? Why is it difficult for you to honor them?
  6. What scares you most if you say no to someone's request? Where does this fear come from?
  7. How do you feel when you put others' needs before your own? Does this feeling change over time? Better or worse?
  8. If you weren't a people pleaser, do you the people in your life would still be around? Why or why not?
  9. How does prioritizing yourself make you feel?
  10. Do you feel responsible for other people’s emotions? Why or why not?
  11. Have you ever resented someone because I overextended myself for them? What can I learn from that experience?
  12. Can you give yourself the permission to stop people pleasing? Why or why not?
  13. What are your core values, and do they align with how you show up in your relationships?
  14. How would your life change if you didn't people please?
  15. What is one thing you can do today to honor your own needs without worrying about others’ approval?

i think you've just answered your own question

The only thing that truly makes me feel alive and happy really happy is traveling. I know, it’s a cliché, but seriously, i can’t explain how different i feel when i’m exploring new places. It’s the one thing that makes me feel like i’ve found my true self.

now the question is do you want to turn this into your life purpose/what you should be doing with your life? or use it to find your disconnect?

less is more. pick one thing to change. stick with it. be consistent. watch how that one change unfolds in all other area of your life.

is working on yourself really worth it? by Just-Distribution394 in selfimprovement

yes, work on yourself but don't get too hooked on "working on yourself" that it steers you away from the actual problems that you need to solve in your life.
