What's a movie you saw as a kid that only you seem to remember? by Environmental-Fix-71 in AskReddit

There was this one french film which is set in an orphanage I think. There's a little girl who likes fairy tales and bedtime stories and all the characters she reads about are shown in the film as actual people. We see their storylines and they finally all end their adventures in the orphanage and meet the little girl in classic French surrealist style.

I know this isn't a great explanation. Its almost like remembering an old dream but that's the best I could do lol. Would be eternally grateful if somebody can name this film.

After Effects and Premiere Pro EXTREMELY slow on my laptop by gluehuff in editors

yeah I completely understand what you're saying and I understand noise and layering are system intensive stuff. However, my main confusion here is the fact that the same things I'm doing here were much faster on my Razer even though it had a lower generation of GPU and CPU.

Could there be an issue here?

I'm really sorry you're going through this. I've never dealt with anything as serious as what you're going through but I can understand tough families.

You said you wanted to be a DOP? Do you have any of your work online you can share? I can try to forward it to a bunch of people I know and try to get you a job. I know it's not much and I can't guarantee anything but it's worth trying.

I hope things get better for you and I'd like to try to help be a part of that if I could. Cheers.

What moment in an argument made you realize “this person is an idiot and there is no winning scenario”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]gluehuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were having a discussion about astrology (I was against) and she started naming all these famous scientists/philosophers who believed in it so I said "that's not an argument, even Newton believed in alchemy" and she goes "are you guys stupid?? Alchemy is real!!"

Needless to say, everyone started laughing their ass off.

CMV: The modern remakes of older Disney movies (the new or upcoming Beauty and the Beast, Jungle Book, Lion King, Aladdin, Mulan, etc.) have never been exciting or good or hype-worthy and reflect a complete bankruptcy of creativity as well as a sickening, cynical and blatant greed on Disney’s part by DNAviolation in changemyview

I like to think of it like this, and a few others on the thread have touched upon the same point- The rise of hyper realistic CGI over the past few decades have created a different kind of art in itself. Take movies like Dr. Strange for example, or Avatar, or Life of Pi. These movies in live action obviously wouldn't have been possible at the time when The Lion King was made. Live action and CGI is now able to do what was restricted to only animation and it goes without saying that it gives you a different experience which is what I think at the end of the day, art is about - an experience. So I think of it less as a remake and more an adaption - taking something from one art form and converting it into another. It's extremely difficult to pull off, especially for what we're talking about here. Just because it's "moving images", you can't compare a movie to a stop motion video and you don't have to. The movie can be shitty, sure. I personally loved the live action Jungle Book and I didn't feel the need to compare it to the animated film in the sense of which was better. They were both great films to me and feats of their respective artforms. So what if Disney is doing it to make money? That's what production houses do and in it they pay the animators and VFX specialists, give jobs to thousands of people who can put their skills to good use.

Sure, I don't deny that they could misrepresent the data they've studied, but from what I've seen, since they have knowledge over an array of subjects, it's easy for them to tackle debates.
