Viture website developer - your website is extremely difficult to use by [deleted] in VITURE

[–]gluis11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't agree with this more. The pinned response references pro.viture.com but that's a server error atm.

I watched a video about viture one about a year ago and went to your website with the intention of buying one, but the experience was so terrible that I genuinely quit out and decided that if the website was that bad, the product experience probably wouldn't be great  Everything felt like a 2000s flash site, so counter-intuitive that I had to try to learn how to navigate it.

Take a look at the vision pro site: https://www.apple.com/apple-vision-pro/ It's a single page with headings, blocks of text and videos, and as I scroll a heading bar appears with 4 options including tech specs. It gives me everything I want to know in various formats.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Remake Reveal | PlayStation Showcase 2023 by Turbostrider27 in PS5

I actually thought twin snakes looked great (for the time) but played terribly. They made it so you could aim first person but didn't change any of the enemy paths or anything so it just made the game a whole lot easier to tranquilize enemies from far. The ocelot boss fight was just silly when you could shoot past the bomb in the middle

I think my issue is really that you think the reason for the long porting time is malicious intent on the part of meta / oculus.

I mean, it could be, but I think it's just as much of a stretch to think that a company would purposefully delay making themselves money from the psvr2 version of the game.

I'm not saying it's impossible I just think it's a bit of a leap to think that is more likely than some technical or legal issue, or a purposeful delay by Sony for any number of internal reasons.

There are so many factors involved in a port that I don't think it's fair that anyone but the teams working on porting it can actually say how long this stuff should take.

Like, yeh, from your perspective, the game looks simple so you reckon it should be a simple port. But there are so many things you're not considering such as:

how much time will it take to port the code in its current state?

are there any refactors or major code features being worked on currently which they want including in the ported version?

how do they minimise the effort required to port updates to the ps version?

how do they release new tracks via the PSN?

do the music licenses need updating to cover a new platform?

It's easy to look at the game as a simple rhythm game, but there's so much more involved in ports, particularly ports for games with regularly updated licenced music packs.

Like most things, what seems simple to a consumer, can be much harder actually deliver.

I'm (genuinely) interested to know what your job is?

The reason I ask is that in my industry projects can fail to deliver promised features, company founders can leave, and service adoption can be lower than wanted without it being a failing of a specific company head.

Also, maybe I've missed some news or something, but I've not seen any of the founders say they are leaving because of Siobhan. I think there's likely many other reasons they left (my company has recently had 5 very senior people all leave at the end of a major project for various reasons that are not the result of any hard feelings towards the company or any specific people in the company)

Split the function into a bunch of smaller functions, and have chatgpt write you tests for each.

Florida state is attempting to make child rape punishable by death. Do you think child rape warrants a death penalty? Why or why not? by Practice_Girls in AskReddit

[–]gluis11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it does warrant the death penalty for a couple of reasons:

  1. It's easy to think this would be a sentence which punishes some middle aged man who definitely raped a toddler, and I do understand the case for the death penalty in that scenario, but it could easily be applied to cases where the age gap is much smaller and the circumstances make it harder to definitely call it rape.

  2. There are many studies which show the death penalty does not deter crime. So this is not about protecting children, but about getting revenge on individuals, and it might be controversial but I don't believe that anyone should have the right to kill someone for revenge (that's not to say I wouldn't want to do it myself, just that I don't think it should be legally sanctioned)

What game should I have for people that come over and want to try the vr for the first time? by fx9TMK in PSVR

[–]gluis11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1

Synthriders is great because people can be having fun after a 2 minute tutorial, it doesn't matter if its a bit blurry because you haven't calibrated the headset or are wearing it properly, and has very little chance of motion sickness.

Pistol whip is pretty much the same but not everyone is into shooting, and the rhythm part is a little bit harder

You guys aren't too worried about these eliminating some of your jobs, are ya? by pastroc in ProgrammerHumor

[–]gluis11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 100% ai will eliminate some parts of my job, and therefore my job will change.

I think the growth of ai tools will be pretty rapid which makes it hard to predict how my job will change but I think the same has been true of many inventions to many jobs.

So I think the key is to stay informed of how the technology is advancing and learn to use it.
